Meet Joanne Neme of Skin Sense

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanne Neme. 

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started off in the industry working for Clinique cosmetics. I then moved on to other makeup and skincare lines throughout the ’90s. As much as I enjoyed being a makeup artist, I discovered that people truly wanted beautiful skin without covering it up with makeup. I wanted to help people achieve beautiful skin without paying a fortune as well. I received my education of Esthetics at L’espirit Academy where I received my license. I gained experience working for a wide array of various spas. Not only have I worked in the traditional spa setting, I furthered my education by going back to school at Douglas J Aveda and got my Educator license. Through this journey, I gained a lot of knowledge. I was able to integrate the different philosophies in order to establish my own wisdom and practice. I started my business primarily on the foundation of my clients being able to afford monthly facials. During these sessions, I provide them with effective and relaxing skincare treatments. I also emphasize at-home regimens are detrimental to their skin health and appearance. I educate my clients in ingredients and skincare myths that can be overwhelming to the average consumer. Overall, my goal is to make a positive difference in my client’s skin; results are my number one priority. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been a road with lots of humbling ups and downs. During Covid, I was able to thrive as an educator until Covid restrictions were lifted. It was during this time I conceived the idea to open my own business, and have been doing so ever since. 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is called Skin Sense. I offer several services. I do body waxing, facial waxing, eye, and brow tinting, lash lifts, Chemical Peels and Customized Facials. I use a Pharmaceutical professional skincare line called GlymedPlus. What sets me apart is my philosophy of monthly affordable facials. I educate my clients on which skincare products to use daily so we can work together on improving their skin concerns and conditions. There are a lot of skincare myths and marketing products that do not deliver good results. I’m knowledgeable in ingredients so I can help them make better skincare purchases. without spending a fortune. 

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Communication is key to my success. I listen carefully to every client so I can provide them with what their needs are.
