Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Dalziel.
Hi Jessica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Michigan has a special place in my heart. I was born and raised in Metro Detroit and spent nearly every summer on Lake Huron. I graduated from GVSU before relocating to the east coast to start my career at an ad agency. I spent almost a decade away from Michigan before I moved abroad to obtain my MBA.
I realized that there are a lot of small businesses and startups that don’t have access to the tools & resources required to establish their new brand and properly go to market with it. When I first started D&Co, I wanted to make more premium marketing services accessible to small business owners, worldwide.
As the company evolved, I honed my focus on supporting the small business owners themselves to empower them to make educated, fully informed decisions about their business. In the next chapter of D&Co that we are relaunching, you’ll see an even more targeted focus with this as well as additional tools and resources, such as the all-women Peer Advisory Group to fully support your business growth journey.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it hasn’t always been smooth. So many small businesses are a roller coaster of a journey, the highs are an incredible sense of achievement (and hopefully you have your crew, like the Peer Advisory Group to celebrate in those achievements together!) and the lows foster fear around when your next client will sign. Many small business owners work through these very same issues, they aren’t unique to D&Co. In fact, I work with many small business owners to do just that — help balance those highs & lows to be more predictable.
I started D&Co just after finishing my MBA and went into it full-time. For a variety of reasons, I eventually had to make tough decisions to scale back parts of the business to take on full-time employment. But I was (and still to this date) face ‘imposter syndrome’ so often. I find that it completely inhibits my growth momentum and can impact anything from showing up consistently on social media to taking on new clients.
As you know, we’re big fans of Dalziel & Company. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Dalziel & Company is the global boutique business management consultancy where small business owners come to grow through client experience (CX), strategy, marketing & operations. We work 1:1 with clients virtually from all over the world to foster opportunities to scale their business at their pace. Provide as many tools, resources & consultation as possible to help balance our clients’ ability to work “on” their business growth opposed to only working “in” their business delivering services.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
