Meet Jessica Carter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Carter. 

Hi Jessica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in Dearborn Heights, MI. I grew up camping and vacationing all over the state of Michigan. This gave me a love for Michigan’s outdoor beauty at a young age. My mom would also take me to downtown Detroit when I was younger. I loved the atmosphere and architecture in Detroit, and this led me to move to midtown when I was 19. In my 20’s, I really had no idea what I wanted to do. In 2015 I fell in love with my now husband Andy and started cosmetology school at the same time. We were married in 2016 and I spent some time as a hairstylist. I put this on pause in 2018 when our first daughter was born. The next few years were truly a whirlwind. The pandemic hit, Andy was working from home full time, I became pregnant again, and it turned out to be twin girls! They were born in 2021. It’s been a lot of fun but also a lot of work! Evalizrose was born from a desire to work from home and build something for our family. Print on demand and Etsy has afforded me the opportunity to combine my creativity and passion for Michigan into something that can provide for my family. 

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been a lot of struggles on this journey. I am a big advocate for mental health, and it has transformed my life. It was an incredible experience to have twins, but it also tested me physically, emotionally, and mentally. Having to take care of two babies at once truly pushed me to my limits at times. I also struggled with postpartum depression for a time after the twins arrived and therapy was able to guide me through that difficult time. I lost my grandfather as well during this time. He was like a father to me growing up, and it was a significant loss to me and my family. Franklin Roosevelt said it best: “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” These times were challenging, but they have made me stronger 

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
On the surface, Evalizrose is a brand that I established to sell clothing and accessories, but to me, this is something greater. Evalizrose is a culmination of my creativity, passion, and motivation. I love designing products and creating something that people will want to wear and share with their friends and their family. This is a realization of multiple dreams, and I never imagined that this would be the vehicle to combine all of these elements. 

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Adapting to change is paramount. I learned this as a parent, and I believe this is important to success in everything in life.
