Today we’d like to introduce you to Janyelle Milton.

Hi Janyelle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself. 
Hi! 

My name is Janyelle Marie Milton, founder of J Marie Premium Sneakers! 

In high school you couldn’t catch me dead in “gym shoes,” I LOVED heels! I loved the feminine way they made me look and feel. Graduating from College… not so much. 

As I settled into corporate America and moved into downtown Detroit, my life became parking structures and A LOT of walking! Then came the health issues, a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, and losing vision in my right eye. Quickly a heel that was once the cornerstone of my look became the cornerstone of my pain! The constant body aching, weight gain, and feelings of uncomfortableness had me looking for an alternative to heels. 

I tried different gym shoe brands that were either masculine, childish, or too athletic, and none of them fit the style that I was accustomed to. 

So, I ditched “gym shoes” for good and created my own PREMIUM SNEAKER brand as an alternative to heels for premium women like myself. I took the first initial of my first name and my middle name and created J. Marie Premium Sneakers! I didn’t want to compromise style, comfort, or quality! So now you don’t either! I offer PREMIUM women sneakers that can be dressed up or down. 

J Marie Premium Sneakers was launched in April of 2018. I partnered with an Italian footwear-making family with over 20 yrs. experience in superior craftsmanship in Le Marche, Italy. They have worked with brands like Gucci, Prada, Todd and Chanel. J Marie Premium Sneakers are conceived in Detroit handcrafted in Italy. Our Premium Sneakers are 100% Italian leather with premium finishes like faux zebra, crocodile, and python in vibrant colors! We are a slow fashion and sustainable organization! I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I first started it was GREAT! I was getting compliments left and right, which started it all. And I was getting booked for so many interviews and featured everywhere! For a new business owner with a brand-new business concept …THAT was enough for me because I felt I was working with something because of that response. 

Well, five years in my sales have not increased and it’s hard to grow a lifestyle brand with no funding. After starting with such a bang, I feel like I have to do more, better. Which I don’t feel like I’m doing. I feel stagnated. 

I feel like I provided a blueprint for a lot of people on what to do and what not to do and was motivation for a lot of people- yet haven’t quite found the formula to get SALES! 

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I design premium Italian leather sneakers in unique colorways using premium finishes like faux zebra, crocodile, and python in vibrant colors! 

I’m known for designing sneakers that are Instagram-worthy! 

I’m most proud of ALL my designs! 

What matters most to you? Why?
It matters to me to be IMPACTFUL! 

To better my life, my family, and my community who look like me from where I’m from. 

I believe that’s why God gives us gifts and increase is to distribute it righteously and to give people hope!
