Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle Murphy.

Hi Janelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story? 
I’m Janelle Murphy, originally from San Diego but now residing in northern Michigan. My fondness and dedication to makeup began in my early years when I landed my first job at a beauty store. As I began applying makeup on others, I realized my profound passion for empowering people through beauty. I honed my skills by practicing on friends and family, leading me to establish my own makeup artist business. I now specialize in wedding makeup and collaborate with photographers on a regular basis. My primary objective is to cultivate an atmosphere that instills newfound confidence in individuals, encouraging them to perceive themselves in a light they might have considered unattainable, all while maintaining their authenticity. Establishing a connection with my clients holds equal, if not greater, importance compared to enhancing their confidence. I tailor each experience to ensure clients feel at ease and thoroughly enjoy every moment of their makeup application. My clients are my utmost priority, and they are the driving force behind my passion and commitment to what I do. 

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Success in this industry comes with inevitable obstacles, requiring dedicated effort to yield results. While word of mouth is powerful in a close-knit community, I’ve recognized the need to surpass expectations. Building a portfolio posed challenges, sometimes providing services for free to showcase my work. Trust is crucial in altering people’s appearances, and active listening became a skill to ensure alignment with my clients. I often remind my brides that they have one opportunity to look their best on their special day – a moment captured in photos they’ll cherish for a lifetime. 

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In my role as a professional makeup artist with a focus on natural glam, I aim to boost my clients’ confidence, allowing them to feel their best in their skin. I take pride in the careful balance of polishing their appearance while preserving their authentic selves, ultimately presenting an enhanced version of who they are.

My utmost priority is ensuring that my clients leave feeling stunning yet true to themselves. I strive to instill newfound confidence in them, making them eager to capture moments with pride. My goal extends to creating an unforgettable wedding day experience where, even at the end of it, they hesitate to remove their makeup because they love the way they look.
