Meet James Clement of Petoskey Dental Associates

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Clement.

Hi James , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Saint Ignace Michigan. My parents, Scott and Diggy, taught my sisters and I that success is driven by determination and hard work. Without my parents guiding me to succeed my lift would have gone down a completely different path. Thank you mom and dad for being the best parents I could have asked for. I am dyslexic. School was difficult but with support and effort I become a good student. I learned a a very young age that out working people is a great tool to lead to success. Most of my drive growing up was put into basketball, leading to a college scholarship and a three year professional basketball career in Europe. In college, I originally studied to become a elementary school teacher. After graduation I was not sure about becoming a teacher. My father convince me to go back to college to apply to dental school. One of the best decisions I made. Now I practice in Petoskey Michigan. I am married to the love of my life, Jenny, and have two wonderful little girls, Cecelia and Athena.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being dyslexic was difficult at first. When I was young I thought I was stupid. Always placed in the slow reading group in elementary school. To be fair, that is the reading group I belonged in. At home my mom did an obnoxiously good job at keeping me up to speed with my classmates. She even went as far to get special training to teach dyslexic people so she could help me more. Looking back I am thankful I am dyslexic. Without the early adversity, I my not have learned how to persevere. I became a more well rounded person because of it.

We are a single dentist practice with the best dental staff in all of Michigan. We specialize in digital dentistry. We use a digital intraoral scanner to recorded all of our impressions. From a single crown to implant restoration to complete denture, we no longer need to use the messy uncomfortable paste. The scans are more accurate, comfortable, and quicker. Along with the scanner we have multiple dental lab grade porcelain and Zirconia milling units to make crowns and bridges in a single visit. For a single crown the appointment from start to finish takes an hour and twenty minutes. My patients have been loving the results. Every day our schedule has opening for emergency appointments for our current and new patients. Northern Michigan has a shortage of dentists so we try and see as many patients as possible without losing the time required to give each patient the time they need. Dentistry can be expensive. We offer flexible payment plans and patient membership programs.

What makes you happy?
I enjoy spending time with my family. Date nights with Jenny, family bike rides, walking our dog Caboose, watching my little girls grow up. Seeing their smiling faces is my happy place. I have waterskied my entire life. That is my favorite summer activity.
