Today we’d like to introduce you to Idasia Sellers.
Hi Idasia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always wanted to be a profession/businesswoman as a little girl. When I thought of profession or professionals, I always thought of them wearing suits. I would dress myself up, glue on my mother’s press-on nails and play “business woman” by myself. Lol. I did have other interest as I got a little older which was engineering. So, my mother enrolled me in a program called DAPCEP (Detroit Area Pre College-Engineering Program) for about 8 years for engineering where I traveled and stayed on different college campus in Michigan. By the time I actually went to college I was pretty much equipped for it. In this program, I were able to work and experience different fields of engineering. I thought I wanted to be an Engineer but by 12th grade, my interest in business came back. So, I pursued a professional degree in Business at Virginia College in Alabama. I think I was truly inspired in business/entrepreneurship because of my uncle and my mother. My first job was at my uncle’s car wash. I used to watch him closely and how he ran his business as I worked for him. My mother was a licensed barber/stylist. She used to take me to hair school with her and I would watch her do hair. She eventually built up so much clientele after graduating. Our basement would be full of women. Like three under the dryer, two waiting to get washed, and one in the chair. She would manage all this by herself. She eventually expanded her business by working at other hair shops and even investing in a hair product which is still in beauty supplies today selling. It’s called “Gift of Dream”. My mom has been interviewed on radio shows with her at the time business partner, she’s gone around to hair schools helping promote the hair products/hair care and held grand openings at local beauty supplies which were very fun events to be at during the time. Finishing college, moving back to Michigan I knew I wanted to go into Real Estate in 2015 but I didn’t necessarily pursue it right away. It took me quite some time to figure it out. I began volunteering at certain places and just trying different business ventures with friends. In 2021 it was like my life began to shift in a more serious matter so I went with the pace, time, and direction. This season of my life lead me back to realizing it was Real Estate for me. And I’m so happy to be a realtor today! Everything about it is everything I’ve been looking for. The building in relationships, the contracting, negotiating, the professional dress-ups. I truly love it and I’m ready to dominate this industry creatively.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been smooth for me life has been a real roller coaster for me. After college, I knew business/entrepreneurship was the thing for me but the journey I’ve been on to get to it took a lot of self-growth, self-awareness, inner healing. and just work. You have to be mentally prepared to start or run any type of business. Honestly, I am still going through some transitions and changes. And I think as long as you’re living that will always be the case. I had to really see my own worth and potential because it doesn’t matter who else can see it you have to for yourself. I’ve been through a lot! 2021 was the year God really slowed me down inwardly and sat me down to do some real inner reflection and healing. And that has been one of the major reasons I’ve been able to make any good move for myself at this point. Self-examination I believe is vital to one’s life!! On the lighter end social media! Lol I kinda just got back on social media in 2020 I went years without having one I’m pretty laid back, very outgoing but chilled at the same time so I’m not really into being seen but I’m adjusting and it has allowed me to meet some new great people to network with as well as clients!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a realtor and independent contractor at Century 21 Curran & Oberski located in Michigan. I specialize in guiding and assisting my clients (also called family) (rather they’re buying or selling) in the competitive ongoing housing market. I provide them with expertise, knowledge, skill, and honesty. I’m most known for my business savviness and just how I carry myself which has always been a business/ professional aura before really getting into business myself. I’m most proud of the way my clients have trusted me with the big decision of either purchasing or selling their home, how fast my clientele came to me, and even the amount of business referrals I’ve received since starting my Real Estate career. It really showed me that I have built some healthy and trusted relationships with people which matters the most to me outside of business. I think what sets me apart from most is my dedication. So, I’m going to showings with my rental clients as well. I’m just as happy to walk into a new home as they are. I get excited just as they do! I believe a client that wants to rent is just as important as a client that wants to sell their home because that renter you can turn into a home buyer and that same home buyer client can turn into a home seller. It’s all about the dedication you give to your clients and how important you make them feel even in what may be baby steps. I’m with my clients every step of the way!
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is not about the amount of money you have, the amount you can pay for higher-end brands, or the luxury cars it’s about the amount of joy you actually have, how happy the people around you are, and the amount of peace you obtain. If you really want to it’s easy to get rich, it’s easy to wear name brand and it’s easy to live a luxury life what’s not easy to most is sustaining and maintaining real joy, harmony, and peace. That’s real work and success when you grasp it!
