Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Achille.
Hi Hannah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hello! My name is Hannah Achille. I am a licensed cosmetologist and small business owner. I provide various beauty services but specialize in Russian style dry manicures and pedicures, as well as special event hair and makeup and makeup lessons.
My journey into the beauty industry began back in 2014 when I decided to enroll in makeup training school and then shortly after, cosmetology school in 2015. I always had an interest in beauty and fashion from a young age staging fashion shows, playing with my mom’s makeup and practicing on my friends.
Fast forward to now, the journey has been a beautiful process of hard work, wins, and challenges.
I’ve had some wonderful opportunities to work on fun projects and use my skill and creativity. One of them most recently being nails for a Swisher Sweets campaign shoot.
I feel so grateful to be tied in with other creatives who also want collaborate and work on projects together. I love to uplift others in my community so we can experience these opportunities together when we can. This is something that I am currently continuing to nurture.
If you had asked me back then, I never would’ve imagined I’d be where I am today, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges I have faced with the growth of my artistry and business ownership is maintaining that same drive and motivation at a consistent rate compared to the beginning of my journey. It can be easy to get comfortable and feel stagnant at times, whether it’s from routine, creative block or over working. Some days can be challenging but then there are the many days where I do what I do and I remember why I love it so much. It brings me great joy and personal fulfillment the pour into something with passion that also has the gift of making others feel good about themselves.
I find it’s just as important to take breaks when you need it as it is to invest in continued education. Community within the industry is important as we can set examples and motivate one another to keep growing and showing up.
Becoming a small business owner without formal training or college degree has it’s challenges, but there are plenty of resources if you look for them. Networking events help a ton. Once you get a system going, it’s easy to keep it moving and showing up for not only yourself, but also the clients who have believed in and supported you from the beginning.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I started at Vanity Hearts Beauty back in the fall of 2022 and have never looked back. I provide an array of beauty services, I sometimes like to refer to myself as a one stop shop.
I specialize in Russian style dry manicures and pedicures, as well as makeup and hair services; primarily for special events. I also do lash lifts, eyebrow laminations, facial waxing and previously eyelash extensions. I have had the pleasure of doing hair and make up for clients attending movie premieres, make up for some of my favorite bands and nails for campaign shoots and fashion shows. I’m proud of those high profile accomplishments, and the opportunities that I continue to receive.
Strong values I carry within my brand are authenticity, community and close attention to detail. I love the opportunity to work and connect with others through my career. I am hoping in the near future to expand my business and see where else this journey takes me. Whether it’s in product development, opening my own space for other creatives or mentoring other young entrepreneurs in the industry.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I absolutely love Ferndale and its charm. I have enjoyed working in the city for the last 3+ years. There is a strong sense of community and I feel safe and seen being in a queer friendly city and workspace. There is not much that I don’t like about Ferndale. I am happy to live as well as work in this cool city!
