Meet Gerrard Allen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gerrard Allen.

Hi Gerrard, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been in the arts and culture space for over 20 years as the founding member of the Poetry Society at Eastern Michigan University. I’ve hosted, sponsored, and performed poetry all over this country. Most recently, authored “I’m Gorgeous: The Anthology Project, available on Amazon. Additionally, my non-profit, Curators of Black Excellence, hosts The Juneteenth Family Reunion, now in its 5th year of serving over 2,500 eventgoers. Starting Centric Place and developing the arts and culture in this building is like experiencing Juneteenth every day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. you don’t know what you don’t know until you start something.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I was known as an educator. I served a 12th grade English teacher and an administrator in high school. I’m proud of the impact I made as an educator during those years, but I’m even more inspired as an entrepreneur who gets expand on my network and be more of a service to my community.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I’m extremely creative. I have a knack for starting things and leading them all the way through. I’m always willing to learn and research.
