Meet Erik Wright of Social House Real Estate Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Wright

Hi Erik, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up the oldest of 3 boys. My middle brother, Brandon, is severely cognitively impaired, autistic and epileptic (cognitively comparable to a 1 year old). Growing up the oldest and seeing how difficult my parent’s life was due to all of the obstacles thrown their way, I had an inherent ambition to become successful at a young age.

In 2011, I found a Gary Vaynerchuk keynote speech on YouTube and instantly gravitated towards the world of social media and all of the possibilities that it offered. I didn’t know what I’d use it for in 2011, but I began learning everything that I could with the resources available to me.

In 2013, I started my first job after college as a data analyst at a large marketing company in Michigan. It was there that I was first exposed to the residential real estate industry. An industry made up of realtors predominately my parent’s age with little to no awareness of social media. This posed an opportunity for me to bring the knowledge that I had gathered the past couple of years and learn how I could integrate it into a well-paying, archaic industry that had seen zero innovation in my lifetime. I got my real estate license in 2014 and began running paid Facebook ads for local listings. As a result, I quickly became a top realtor in SE Michigan, selling over 200 homes in my first 4 years.

In 2019, I started Social House Group, a residential real estate brokerage that operates all over Metro Detroit. We currently have over 50 real estate agents working at my brokerage and I’ve sold over $250 million in sales volume personally since 2014.

In addition to Social House, I own a professional holiday light installation business called Ho Ho Holiday Lighting, a local news company that I founded with my dad, Ed Wright, called Social House News, and a title company called Gravity Title.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
2014-2018 were fast, smooth growth and not much could go wrong.

Starting in 2019, I took on an entirely new and more complex challenge of starting a brokerage, leading people (both employees and agents) and learning all of the ins and outs of being a business owner through countless failures. As of today, I’ve learned a lot about the right and wrong places to spend money, hiring the right people, choosing the right partners and the importance of having an unwavering focus on your core principles and values.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
