Meet Erica Gretebeck of Brighton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Gretebeck.

Erica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started in college while pursuing my degree in photojournalism second shooting weddings to gain experience outside of newspaper work. While in college I worked for our student led newspaper as a staff photographer and spent time as the photo editor of the newspaper during the summer. I also freelanced for various newspapers covering sports and events.

Post graduation I continued to second shoot for a few years while working full time before diving head first into my own business and pursuing wedding photography full time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. I stepped away from weddings in my early 20s for a few years before I had a big enough “ah-ha” moment to push me back into the industry. I started getting really serious about making it my full time career in 2017 which brought me to where I am today, shooting full-time and running my own business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a full time wedding photographer in the metro Detroit area but I travel around the state for weddings too. I also love capturing graduating seniors – High school and college.

I’m most proud of taking a chance on myself and pursing my dream of doing what I absolutely love for a living.

I think what sets me apart is that when I approach a wedding day, it’s more about telling the story than just photographing a wedding day. It’s looking for the moments inside moments and catching the in-between moments that go otherwise unnoticed. I always strive for the couples to be able to feel their images and not just have the pretty photos.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
This is a tough one because there’s so many. My childhood is full of many beautiful memories that it’s hard to pick just one.
