Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Verdé.
Hi Drew, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My dad use to make me watch recorded cassette tapes of MLK and Michael Jackson as a kid from ages 5 until around 8 I became a big fan of MJ. He would listen to mowtown and my mom would listen to 80s pop rock and I hated it as a kid but grew to love it. My first favorite rapper is Lil wayne I got heavily influenced by cash money and the first beat I wrote to was “bedrock” lol I say that with confidence somehow. I got obsessed with writing and it became a puzzle to me. Like a crossword or something in the realm of that. I never stopped writing everyday and met people that helped further my career Brodi Ganz was the biggest puzzle piece for me and bridge connector. He did all the footwork to get my name out while I preferred to avoid networking due to anxiety and trust issues. I eventually built genuine relationships with really good people in the industry and slowly it’s lead to where I’m at today
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s not smooth it’s full of disappointments, depression, heart breaks, betrayal etc. Nothin about it has been smooth what so ever. I think me being as good as I am has had some gatekeepers try to avoid me because they had a product they were pushing for and everyone wants to be the best. I’ve been told putting me next to other rappers/musicians makes them feel overshadowed which is unfortunate
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a studio engineer, videographer and musician I sing and rap. I utilize both in most of my music because I love both. I’m most proud of my ability to put a legitimate song together from start to finish in unique ways every time. Lol I’m soundin like a narcissist. “Dead roses & Dollar Bills EP” out now (engineered by me)
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m very transparent and outspoken with everyone I know I speak before I think at times enough to be vulnerable with everyone and I have deep convos even admitting insecurities using humor. So there’s nothing people around me don’t really know bc I’ve also had interviews speaking my mind and explaining my day to day. Something some MAY not know is I play “call of duty” zombies ALOT I might even be one of the best players lowkey. I play it while I practice my music to multi task. It helps it become second nature to me
