Meet Destiny Mitchell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Mitchell.

Hi Destiny, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My business started when covid began in 2019. Friends found out that I could bake with my apple pie, and they continued to ask me to make it for them. After so many were made, I had people offering to pay me to make them, soon adding my lemon pie to the list. And it kept growing. When I was nine years old, my grandparents (my mom parents) insisted that I learn how to cook and bake on my ninth birthday. And from there, the enjoyment of cooking and baking has been my passion, what I love to do in my spare time ever since. It’s what I do to relax. Being in the kitchen is a large part of my identity.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?

Starting off during covid it hasn’t been. It was a time where everyone was afraid to be around each other. But they still wanted good foods and desserts to eat. But starting off in the midst of a pandemic, made it a huge struggle. When going to the grocery stores and needing items, and seeing that they didn’t have them, still to this day. The employee will say there’s a storage on that item, due to covid. So, I have to go to multiple stores to find it. And I refuse to give up until I have it, because I have customers to please at the end of the day.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in baking. I do homemade desserts. My business started using my grandmothers’ recipes. My business is named after my grandmother, Mary. She was literally my best friend. I watched cooking shows with her every day. So, it was only right to name my business after her. That’s what I’m most proud of. Being able to keep her legacy alive and going, that’s what something I have been trying to do since she passed away. And I never knew where to start, until my business started out of nowhere. What sets me different from most is, I literally put that love that your grandparents put into their desserts when they made them. I make sure I deliver top-quality products to you. Down to the peach cobbler that has flakey crust, the moist pound cakes, and the soft chocolate chip cookies.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about our city is food lol. I’m about foodie. In Detroit, we have coney Island, great pizza, Chinese food, the Bettermade chips, nicks hot corn chips, (I’m a big foodie if you haven’t been able to tell by now lol). But this is where my granddad and my family is. What I like least about the city, is the cold, the snow lol. I don’t do the cold very well lol.
