Today we’d like to introduce you to Deon Thompson.
Hi Deon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Deon Thompson, I was born and raised in Detroit, Mi, to a single mother of 8 children. The youngest of 8 I was destined to be different. I was born on the Eastside of Detroit, in the roughest of areas. Being born in this environment I didn’t become a product of it, but I became the opposite. Later in life my mother decided to moved where we would grow up best, then came the westside of Detroit. Here I attended and I graduated from Detroit community High School in 2014′, Just before graduation I was invited to Grand Rapids, MI to be a guest on “The Miranda Show” where I was competing for a $5,000 scholarship to start my own 501c3 “s.a.l.t” Saving All Lost Teens. I was the runner up so I was awarded $2,500 for my participation. I used that money to jumpstart one of three business I have, “Faith Cleaning Services”. In November of 2014, I moved away to attend college where I studied Education and received my bachelor’s degree. After two year at Henry Ford College in Dearborn, MI, I continued school and enrolled in Wayne State University in the year of 2017. Where I didn’t finish Because at this time my mom had suspected she had cancer. My boyfriend of seven years had encouraged me to continue, 2018 Has come and my focus had retracted to my mother’s health. My boyfriend supported my diversion from school and moved back in with my mother with me. At this point I am completely focused on the health of my mother and time it takes to help her get better. October of 2018 has come and my mom has been admitted to Hospice, due to declining of her health. Three days into Hospice my mom’s health declined tremendously and on October third my mom had expired. A few months later my stepdad of 22 years had gotten sick from my mom’s death and was admitted in the same hospice place my mother was, where he had expired due to septic shock. From that point on I was on a mission, a mission to complete what my mom had started, raising my little brother as best as I can. I started school back in 2019, I am graduating with ALL HONORS. I am top of my class and have earned many accolades. August 2021, I am now living in the state of GA, I am enrolled in college full time, working 146 hours every two weeks while raising 3 dogs and my little brother. I feel like I’m on top of the world when all of sudden it comes crashing down, I get a darning phone call that crushes my world to pieces. That intel the news that my Fiancé had just been killed by a person who is now in jail. I took everything I learned from my mother’s death and my dad’s death and applied it to this situation. This is what helped me get through, along with help from my new boyfriend Andre. Life has been a race but all I can do is run it. I am still enrolled in school full time, running three businesses with my boyfriend Andre, “Everything Doll Up’ Women’s clothing, “Faith Cleaning Services” Cleaning service and “Faithful Imaging” A photography business. I have not worked since a w2 job since August of 2021. My life has taught me many things, and one of them is “NEVER GIVE UP”.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it has not been a smooth road, infact I have lost both my mother and father in the same year. I am now taking care of my little brother while in school full time and working a full-time job. It has not been easy at all. Losing my significant other is another hiccup I face and still am facing. It tears me down ‘til this day
As you know, we’re big fans of Everything Doll’d Up. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
This business was created by myself and my boyfriend now. We both saw a need for fashionable women clothing, we saw a lucrative market for this type of business and so we jumped right in. Opening in August of 2021, we launched in hopes it would take off and it did just that. We are on our way to becoming not just a women store but a fashion statement.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I always listen to my Pastor Dale Brooks, He has always told me “God has plan for my life” and I always believed that, so my behavior portrays that. I take my pastor’s advice to HEART; he has said many things that has helped me realize who I really am and not who I wanna be.
