Meet Deanna Shakur of Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Shakur

Hi Deanna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Deanna , I’m 28, born in Greenville South Carolina, raised in Taylor Michigan I completed high-school and graduated . During my senior year I became pregnant with my 1st child and during that same time my mother was dying from multiple health problems, so it was a lot for me to cope/bare with but I had no choice but to keep going. As the years went on I did become unmotivated because I solely focused my life on motherhood and not having my mother during the prominent times that a mother is most needed I felt lost, then something came over me last year this same exact time ! I was cooking my favorite meal, salmon and I needed something more than hot sauce I instantly thought of my mother sauce that she would mostly make during dinner. It was like a breath of fresh air to me and I knew right then and there that was my niche, I love to cook and I’m a people person. So selling a sauce was right up my alley, I know my mother would want me to keep going and to positively impact the youth and others to never quit despite the obstacle. I got to where I am today by being resilient and diligent. I simply never gave up

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A smooth road ? More like a rat maze. Constant rerouting, and a few bumps but one thing about me is that I’m always going to take that risk even if I get set back I’ll go back to the drawing board and come back harder. With anything that you want great in life it should come with some turbulence it’s all about your determination and willingness. How bad do you really want what you’re saying you want.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am mostly known for my sauce “TheRealMamaDeeSauce” it’s a sweet, tangy taste that will leave your taste buds craving more. It goes best on fish and chicken however, myself and others have tried it on many other food items such as : tacos , spaghetti, salads and much more it’s definitely a 1:1 sauce that’s a glaze, marinade, dipping and an additive! I am mostly proud of the idea I came up with to ensure my mother name and face is remembered so I used a beautiful my favorite picture of her and I had it cartoon into a label. Think of uncle Ben’s or aunt Jemima. That’s the idea I was going for. Because mama Dee is a grandmother an aunt a mother and was the one who loved to cook and make others happy. My creativity is what sets me aside from others. I’m always thinking outside the box and a way to captivate ones mind and when you’re selling something you really have to sell it ! So knowing trends and what’s catchy is important

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Well of course I’d have to give the main credit to my mother. Mama Dee for the idea itself, but it doesn’t stop there. Work has to be done behind the idea to watch it bloom! One mentor that pushed me to success is Art Cartwright, who became a millionaire at age the age of 35. He hosts business seminars for entrepreneurs here in Detroit, he’s offering free knowledge and grants to assist you with what you’re accomplishing, I love that other millionaires are in the room as well. It’s a great opportunity to network and learn from others. I truly believe if you want to be successful you must surround yourself with other successful people and always be a student. I believe You do adapt to your environment, and global empowerment not only helps you but hold you accountable for what you say you want to do! And that is very much needed to be successful
