Hi DeAngelo, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a city where most people only talked about selling drugs, hitting licks, or hurting others — it was all about survival, not success. I saw early on that if I didn’t find another path, I’d get trapped in the same cycle. So, I started putting my energy into creativity — music, visuals, and storytelling — using those as my way to escape. Over time, that passion turned into purpose. I built myself up from the ground, learning how to turn pain into art and lessons into drive. Today, I use my platform to show that you don’t have to be a product of your environment — you can rise from it. My story is about transformation, growth, and breaking every limit that was placed on me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When I first started, I didn’t even know how to write music. I just had a lot of thoughts and emotions but didn’t know how to put them into words or rhythm. Learning how to express myself through writing took time and patience.
Another challenge was staying true to who I am. From the start, I made the choice not to cuss in my music — not because I couldn’t, but because I wanted to show that real emotion and power can come through without it. It wasn’t always easy, especially in an industry where most people expect explicit content, but it helped me find my own lane and voice.
Every struggle I faced taught me something new about discipline, creativity, and purpose — and those lessons built the foundation for the artist I’ve become today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a multi-talented artist, musician, and creative storyteller from Detroit. My work blends music, visuals, and emotion to tell real stories — about growth, pain, and purpose. I specialize in making music that’s clean but powerful, proving you don’t have to use profanity to express real emotion or make people feel something. My sound carries honesty, motivation, and raw Detroit energy.
Beyond music, I’m also a photographer and videographer under the name DeangeloDidThat, capturing the beauty and truth of everyday life through my lens. What sets me apart is my authenticity — I’m not trying to fit in, I’m building my own lane. Everything I create comes from lived experience and the desire to inspire others to chase their passions no matter where they come from.
What I’m most proud of is the growth — turning my creative dreams into a lifestyle and showing others from my city that they can do the same.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories was meeting my idol, Logic. Growing up, I looked up to him not just for his music but for his message — staying real, spreading positivity, and pushing past struggle. That moment inspired me to keep chasing my dreams no matter how far they seemed. Years later, getting signed to Sprite with the same endorsement deal he had felt like everything came full circle. It was proof that hard work, faith, and authenticity really do pay off.
