Meet Dayna and Meghan of Gals & Ghouls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayna and Meghan.

Hi Dayna and Meghan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Dayna and Meghan both met while going to school for makeup. Both of them have a background in Psychology (Meghan has a Bachelor’s in Psychology and Dayna has her Masters’ in Social Work) so they bonded over that. However, they also were both looking for something more creative than what their degrees were in. For both of them, they always loved makeup when they were younger but never realized that you could do it as a career. Dayna started attending school for makeup for self-care and Meghan to pursue her passion. They would constantly joke about starting a business together, but as they got closer to graduating and started doing makeup part-time on the weekends, they started taking their joking seriously! Eventually, both of them quit their 9-5’s and jumped headfirst into their makeup career, creating Gals & Ghouls together. They wanted Gals & Ghouls to combine their unique abilities and offer versatile, passionate, and creative services. It has now been 4 years and they have the pleasure of doing everything from bridal, to beauty, special effects, and more!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! We knew very little when it came to business and sort of figured out what being a small business owner was along the way. Quitting our 9-5 jobs to make Gals & Ghouls succeed was terrifying but we made it work in the end. COVID- 19 was also very difficult for us as we were completely out of work for a while. We have always prided ourselves on our sanitation but COVID presented new problems to solve and hurdles to jump. However, it taught us to be versatile and how to adapt quickly to changing times, while keeping ourselves and our clients happy and healthy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We picked Gals & Ghouls as our company name because we wanted to showcase that we did more than just bridal or typical beauty makeup. While we do indeed do a lot of bridal and beauty, we absolutely love Halloween makeups and SPFx. We also get booked for many other things such as makeup for headshots, photoshoots, commercials, and films! We also teach both individual classes and group classes. One of our favorite classes was for the Orion Township Public Library where we taught a group of students how to make wounds out of homemade wax and how to face paint a sugar skull.

What are your plans for the future?
In the future, we are planning on getting a larger team so that we have to turn less of our clients down. We would also love to start doing services outside of Michigan and into the surrounding states! We possibly have a film booked in Iowa coming up so that is super exciting and we would love to do more things like that!
