Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Command.
Hi Daniel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Dan C Bearded really started from a pretty simple place: I was growing my beard out, trying to learn how to take care of it, and realized there was a lot of confusing and conflicting information out there.
I’ve always been someone who enjoys learning, researching, and then breaking things down in a way that makes sense to people. So I started making YouTube videos about beard care, products, routines, growth, and the questions I was personally trying to figure out along the way.
At first, it was very much a hobby. I wasn’t thinking about building a business or turning it into a career. I just wanted to make useful content and connect with other guys who were interested in the same things. Over time, people started trusting my recommendations and coming to the channel with their own questions. That community aspect became the part I enjoyed most.
As the channel grew, so did the opportunities around it. I was able to work with small businesses, review products, consult with brands, host livestreams, attend events, and eventually build Dan C Bearded into an actual business. What started as simply talking about beard care became a much bigger platform centered around education, community, and helping both consumers and small businesses.
One thing I’m proud of is that I’ve never wanted the channel to just be about telling people what to buy. I want people to understand the “why” behind things. Why certain ingredients are used, why certain routines work, what the science says, and how someone can make the best decision for their own beard rather than just copying somebody else.
Today, I’m still doing many of the same things that got me started: researching, answering questions, testing products, talking with the community, and trying to make complicated topics easier to understand. The scale has changed, but the foundation really hasn’t. I’ve just continued to follow my interests, stay consistent, and try to provide value every time I put something out.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a perfectly smooth road, and I think that is probably true for most people who build something over time.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to handle growth without losing what made the channel enjoyable in the first place. When something starts as a hobby, there is a lot of freedom in it. Once it becomes a business, there are deadlines, expectations, partnerships, finances, and a lot more responsibility behind the scenes. Learning how to balance the creative side with the business side has been a constant process.
There have also been plenty of moments where I questioned whether certain ideas were working, whether the channel was growing fast enough, or whether I was making the right decisions. YouTube can be unpredictable. You can put a ton of work into something and it does not perform the way you expected, while another video can take off for reasons you never saw coming. That can be frustrating, but it also teaches you to focus more on consistency and long-term progress instead of reacting to every individual result.
Another challenge has been navigating relationships and trust within the industry. When you review products and work with companies, you have to be very intentional about staying honest with your audience. There can be pressure to make everyone happy, but that is not always possible. I have always felt that the trust of the people watching has to come first, even if that means having uncomfortable conversations or passing on opportunities.
There is also the challenge of simply wearing a lot of hats. Content creation, research, filming, editing, business communication, social media, livestreams, and family life all compete for time. Learning how to create systems, set boundaries, and not try to do everything at once has been important.
At the same time, I would not trade those struggles. A lot of the growth has come from having to figure things out as I went. The difficult parts forced me to become more disciplined, more patient, and better at separating short-term setbacks from the bigger picture.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Dan C Bearded is centered around beard education, product knowledge, and community. The YouTube channel is probably what I am most known for, but over the years it has grown into much more than simply reviewing beard products.
A big part of what I do is help people understand how to take better care of their beard and the skin underneath it. That can mean breaking down ingredients, talking about grooming routines, explaining beard growth, covering common problems, or looking at the science behind claims that are made in the grooming industry. I really enjoy taking a topic that may seem complicated or overwhelming and making it practical and easy to understand.
I also work closely with small businesses in the beard and grooming industry. I have had the opportunity to review products, provide feedback, consult with brands, help introduce new products to consumers, host interviews and livestreams, and give business owners a platform to tell their story. Supporting small businesses has always been a major part of the brand.
If there is one thing that I think sets Dan C Bearded apart, it is the relationship with the community. I have never wanted it to feel like there is a wall between the person making the videos and the people watching them. Livestreams, comments, messages, viewer questions, and even disagreements have all helped shape the content. I learn a lot from the community too, and I think people can tell that their input is genuinely valued.
I am also very protective of trust. If I recommend something, I want people to know that the recommendation is based on my actual experience and opinion. I work with companies, but I never want a business relationship to determine what I say about a product. That trust took years to build, and I view it as one of the most valuable things connected to the Dan C Bearded name.
Brand-wise, that is probably what I am most proud of. Of course I am proud of the channel growth, the videos, the partnerships, and the opportunities that have come from it, but the bigger accomplishment is building a community where people feel comfortable asking questions and know they are going to get a thoughtful answer.
At the end of the day, Dan C Bearded is about helping people feel more confident in their grooming journey, helping consumers make informed decisions, and hopefully giving some great small businesses the attention they deserve along the way.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the feel of our community. I grew up, graduated from high school, coached, student taught, taught for 12 years, bought a home, and continue live her and raise my children. I know so many people, and there is a lot of support. I love that we are between calm northern Michigan and hectic southern Michigan. It is a wonderful middle ground! I like to keep it positive, and I will keep the dislike between my wife and myself haha be part of the solution, right?
