Meet Celtic Isles of All over Michigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Celtic Isles

Hi Celtic , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are a 4 piece band who came from all different backgrounds. We met each other through mutual musician friends from different festivals in Michigan. Kathy and Garrett were playing regularly at O’Connor’s Public House in Rochester. Marcel stopped by and joined them just for fun a few times. Jessica was getting back into music after a long break, and started singing a few songs with them here and there. After about 6 months of Marcel and Jessica “guest starring” with Kathy and Garrett, we finally looked at each other and said. “why don’t we just become a band?!” From there we settled on a name and started getting ourselves out there. We were able to starting playing some well known festivals like, The Michigan Renaissance Festival, Arts Beats and Eats, and from there we have played anything from festivals to private events and everything in between.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think our biggest struggle is that we all have busy schedules and work full time jobs. So getting together for regular rehearsals can be a struggle. But honestly, it’s been pretty smooth. We are all multi-talented so even if 1 member isn’t available for a gig, we can usually make it work anyway. We all get along and are always super excited when someone brings up a song they want to do. Usually the response is “yeah! That’s a great song! Let’s do it!!”

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are most known for being lively and traditional. We are a great “pub band”. We like to put our own unique twist on songs. Whether that is making 1 song our own, or stringing songs together that don’t typically go together. We also like to throw a curve ball and play something not in genre, like a random Beatles song. This opens up lot opportunities for different type of festivals. Another thing that makes is stand out is that we all play multiple instruments. Most bands have 1 or 2 members that will swap out an instrument for a song, but we are constantly switching up what we are doing.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
When we were fairly new, we got invited to a small event we had never heard of. The pay wasn’t much and the drive was a bit longer than we typically like. So we discussed it and decided it was worth sending 2 members out to see if it would be worth it in the future. Garrett and Kathy came back and said it was actually pretty fun. We are so glad we decided to take that risk because the event planner of that small event, turned out to be the planner for huge events! That is what got us into Arts Beats and Eats, and many others!
