Meet Cassandra Ward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Ward. 

Cassandra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Cassandra Ward can be described as a beauty entrepreneur who’s passionate about doing business in excellence and integrity.

I’ve been in the business of beauty for more than 20 years.

My journey in beauty began in 1998. I was facing a 12-month lay-off from my job as an instrument designer from the research department at Wayne State University. Pondering what to do with my time, I made the decision to take a 6-month manicuring course. Prior to completing the manicurist program, I took an interest in makeup. I quickly discovered that most cosmetics lines did not have a grasp on undertones for women of color. My love for nails grew after returning to my job the following year. While carrying my third child, my husband and I decided it was time for me to be a stay-at-home mom. What a beautiful journey it was. In 2002 I began my full-time career as a manicurist, and opened up a full-service salon in 2004. In 2008 the makeup industry rekindled and brands began to better understand skintones for women of color. Currently, I’m on a journey pursuing tv and film. It’s been full of challenging lessons and accomplishments, but worth it nonetheless. I am grateful for how far I’ve come, and I am extremely excited for what lies ahead.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has taken a few detours here and there, but each one was accompanied with a great lesson. One of the most important things I’ve learned was when to understand your skill and your worth, and knowing when to take time to learn and practice in order to qualify for more jobs.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a beauty artist! My body of work includes print, e-commerce, editorial, commercial, tv, and film. My goal is to give the client the best experience possible each step of the way, from the moment of contact until the assignment ends. I truly take pride in the professional relationships I’ve built on my career journey. I believe what has set me apart from others is what people say about me when I’m not in the room. I believe when you love what you do it shows, and people will talk about whether they’re in your presence or not.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
My role as a beauty evangelist is the most important part of my life and business. I believe in performing with Love. My client deserves an artist that is fully committed to the assignment. I truly love what I do. From start to finish, I do everything I can to be full invested in the process and make sure my client is satisfied.
