Today we’d like to introduce you to Caron Recker.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My passion for serving others and giving back to the community has always been a guiding force in my life. No matter the role I’ve held, I’ve made it a priority to instill that same commitment in my team—creating opportunities for us to volunteer, support others, and make a meaningful impact together. I truly believe that we shape our future by investing in the next generation, which is why mentoring, sponsoring, and advocating for others is so important to me.
The mission of this organization, however, is deeply personal. My sister is a two-time breast cancer survivor, and walking alongside her through that journey changed my life. Witnessing her strength, but also the pain, uncertainty, and challenges she faced, gave me a profound sense of empathy and a new perspective on what so many women endure in silence.
That experience inspired me to take action—to create a space where women battling breast cancer feel supported, seen, and cared for. This organization was built from both a lifelong passion for community and a deeply personal calling to make a difference in the lives of others.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to building this organization has not always been smooth. Like many grassroots nonprofits, one of the biggest challenges has been limited time and resources. There isn’t always a steady flow of funding or support, and balancing this work alongside everyday responsibilities can be difficult.
At a certain point, I made a decision—if I truly wanted this vision to come to life, I had to be willing to go the extra mile and make sacrifices. That has meant pouring in my own time, using my own resources, and sometimes even funding efforts out of my own pocket.
I’ve also leaned on what I do have—my talents, and the incredible support of family and friends who have generously shared their time, skills, and hearts to help bring this mission forward.
While the journey hasn’t been easy, every challenge has only strengthened my commitment. This work is bigger than obstacles, and it continues to be driven by purpose, passion, and the belief that making a difference is always worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about HOPE SMC LLC and Women of Hope non-profit?
I bring over 22 years of experience in the automotive industry, where I’ve had the opportunity to grow through a variety of roles, including Electrical Controls Automation Engineer, maintenance leadership positions, and Manufacturing Production Operations Director. Throughout my career, I’ve developed a strong passion for people—specifically coaching, developing leaders at all levels, and creating environments where teams can thrive. I’m known for problem solving, bridging gaps, bringing people together, and driving meaningful cultural transformation.
In 2019, I had the privilege of leading a community initiative in partnership with the City of Detroit and Stellantis, focused on exposing Southeastern High School students to careers in manufacturing. That experience reinforced my belief that we must intentionally invest in the next generation and create pathways for future leaders.
Building on my professional experience, I founded HOPE SMC—Hands On Professional Experts, a manufacturing consulting company designed to leverage my expertise while also preparing for the future. Through HOPE SMC, I focus on leadership coaching, development, and helping organizations strengthen their people and culture.
Alongside my professional work, my nonprofit efforts are a true passion. I am constantly collaborating with my team to create events and initiatives that can positively impact someone’s life. The causes we support—breast cancer awareness, domestic situations, and mentorship—are all deeply personal to me and rooted in real-life experiences.
When I reflect on HOPE SMC and WOMEN of HOPE SMC, it is this brand that brings me the most pride. It represents more than an organization—it represents a community of authentic, compassionate women who are genuinely committed to supporting others and making a difference.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that might surprise people about me is that I used to have a deep fear of public speaking. I would get so nervous at the thought of being called on that I would have what felt like mini anxiety attacks in my head, just anticipating it.
While I was in college, my mentor and sponsor, Ray Card, gave me advice that changed everything. He told me that the only way to overcome that fear was to face it head-on—by putting myself in situations that forced me to speak. He explained that you don’t go around fear, you go through it. And the only way through it is to keep doing it.
So I did exactly that.
I pushed myself into every opportunity I could find. I spoke at my undergraduate graduation—completely nervous, with a mouth so dry I felt like I could start a fire. I got involved in children’s ministry, where I had to speak, teach, and engage with groups regularly. From there, I continued to say yes to opportunities to present, teach, and eventually coach others.
Over time, what once felt impossible became natural.
Today, I can confidently say I’ve conquered that fear. And not only that—I’ve turned it into one of my strengths. That journey is a reminder to me that growth doesn’t happen in comfort, it happens when you’re willing to push through fear and show up anyway.
