Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Moreno.
Hi Carmen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I am Venezuelan, currently living in Costa Rica. I began to take photography more professionally, approximately 15 years ago.
I started learning on my own with a digital camera, learning technique and practicing being my own model, so self-portrait was my personal photography school to learn how to capture other souls.
Then I started watching tutorials to learn how to use editing programs and with practice I improved and today, I not only use them for my work, but I also teach other photographers how to use them.
Currently, I dedicate myself to portrait photography, I also photograph landscapes, still life, and products.
Right now, I am developing a personal photography project with classical dancers, the project called “Dancer Storytelling”, for now, I have 12 Costa Rican dancers out of 21 that I decided to capture, to later make a book and an exhibition with all the photos of the Project.
I keep learning because there are always new things to update, my creativity is stimulated by studying and acquiring new knowledge.
Photography is my passion and my eternal love.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has had ups and downs, unfortunately, I feel that in Latin America the work of a photographer is not valued, but over time, I have known how to protect my passion for photography, I combine my work as a photographer with other activities that I also like and so on. I have been able to take away the weight of being the main source of income.
But like all roads, it is never straight and it is in the difficult sections where we learn and begin to value the experience that obstacles leave us,
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in portraits, in addition to being a photographer I am also a yoga instructor and digital content creator. What identifies my work the most is the way I capture the photos and how I edit them, is what they always tell me.
What I feel most proud of is my ballerina project, since in some way it is having made a dream come true. I always wanted to do classical dance and this is a way to make it happen, through my camera.
If I have to mention what sets me apart from others is my attention to detail, to simplicity, giving beauty to things that go unnoticed by others, and above all, light, which always plays a fundamental role in my photographs.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Honestly, I have never looked for a mentor, but I have looked for people who inspire me to improve at what I feel I can be better at. When you are aligned with what you love, it is very easy to find people who can serve as an example and motivate you to be your best version.
