Today we’d like to introduce you to Candais Hamilton.
Hi Candais, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always grown up with the dog throughout my years. I’ve always loved dogs other people dogs. I started dog sitting on Rover in my one apartment then I started my own business. Can I call it? Jazzy queen‘s walking named after my two dogs jazzy was a pitbull Queenie. She was a Chihuahua and I would walk dogs. If I was in dog I would take him to the dog park then I decided to do it from home full-time and work part-time for extra money when I didn’t have any dogs that I was dog sitting for or going on walks or doing dog visits, but my first job was working in this doghouse in Ferndale, Michigan for almost 4 years to really get my hands in on how to run a doggy daycare, a small doggy daycare and I feel more in love ever since
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s always a struggle because you have to go through the dry spell of in between holidays. I’m not getting the clientele that you want so you have your slow days or your slow months. You have your busy months and your good months so with any business, especially dog care business can fluctuate up and down, but it’s still the reward knowing that you are helping a family that wants to go away on vacation or have a night out on the town. We’ll just get away for the weekend.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I was always known as a little girl that was never afraid of dogs. Grown up I will go up to the dog in their yard at their gate at their entrance and put them and sneak them snacks growing up. I still did the same thing I would watch other people dogs that couldn’t be watched sometimes or the owners were afraid to leave their dogs along. So for me, it was just for fun enjoying being around other for babies and keeping them company and keeping them entertained and also keeping myself in shape and having fun as well I’m proud of when I start at my business jazzy Queen‘s walking how fast it did start to pick up for me having regular clients throughout the year and that was a very good experience of my own and I’m going to continue that once I get settled in Arizona.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Even though I knew my apartment that I was in, you are not allowed to have so many dogs. They knew that I had a dog but not too many people knew that I was a dog walker or dog sitter so I would take the risk of having people dogs, small dogs at that time between my dog Queenie, which was a Chihuahua and three or four small dogs that I would do it and leave my apartment to go to work part-time that was like a big risk but they didn’t make a lot of noise and I was not allowed neighbor so the rest was I had one neighbor that did tell on me, but it didn’t stop my business. I just was more cautious and careful and watched what I do around that neighbor and a higher represented myself so that was like a big risk because that almost stopped my home business in my extra income that I had at that Time.
