Meet Caitie Biggs of East Lansing, Michigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitie Biggs

Caitie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Karmic Delay began as an art account on Instagram named Deformed Tooth back in 2023 – I had just lost my apartment, cut contact from toxic family, and needed a way to express my feelings and reform the identity I’d suppressed around misogynistic, transphobic family. Since then, the brand has been a way for me to explore my identity as a trans, queer fem person. I create fashion that explores queerness and femininity, oftentimes infusing vintage pieces with bold, outward expressions of such.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first shifted into fashion, I had a lot of doubts about my own abilities: I had only ever operated a sewing machine with help of a friend, and in high school at that; I didn’t know how to print, or embroider, or even how to properly tie-dye… But passion has a way of breaking down barriers. I began teaching myself everything through trial and error and a few online tutorials, and today, I’ve taught myself a variety of techniques from blockprinting & sewing to beading & even leatherwork.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Above all else, I am known for my whimsically nostalgic fashion: I have a love for vintage & oftentimes choose to create pieces out of vintage textiles and accessories. It allows me to reflect on the past & do my part in reducing some of the waste my industry creates; and it also gives me great insight into people & culture of the past…
