Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenneman Lea.
Brenneman, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in grand ledge, Michigan. My grandfather and father were both builders. Growing up at a very young age my dad had me on job sites learning. For a brief period my dad my grandpa and I work together. In high school I would work for a couple hours after school every day and full-time in the summer building houses. I always enjoy building. There’s something about creating something with your hands, standing back and see the final product. In 2011 I moved to Spring Lake. I always enjoyed this area, the water, the town and everything it has to offer. I started doing odd jobs for the first year and then started working at a local countertop company where I worked for about a total of six or seven years. In 2018 I started my business. It was something I knew I needed to do. I had no work lined up when I quit the countertop place to start my business, I hit the ground running talking to everyone I could to sell some remodel jobs. My first year I actually was very successful. I completed a lot of really nice jobs for some really wonderful customers. Every year since then the company has managed to double or triple in size. About five years ago, I hired my first helper then I hired a lead carpenter, shortly after that I hired a project manager. It has been a steady and very healthy growth. Starting my business is probably one of the best decisions I ever made and probably one of the most difficult endeavors I have ever faced. As I have grown, I have had to learn different things. But like anything I do I do not do things and half measures. It is my deep down desire to be the best construction company around. If I can predict the future based on the past up until this point, I am very excited. There are wonderful things to come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t know any business that is a smooth road. I would say the biggest obstacle throughout my entire business ownership has been myself. When you are steering the ship, it is all on you. You can either decide to go through smooth water or ignore the path ahead and end up in rough waters. One of the biggest things I have tried to overcome is being a business owner and not an employee of the business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We specialize in remodels in new construction. I would say I’m very proud of where we are at at this moment. We have developed a process that is extremely smooth. It’s taking a long time to get to this point in a lot of learning, which I don’t think you can truly learn without failing, so is a good feeling to be where we are at right now. I would say one of the things that sets us apart is our process and complete and utter desire to make sure that every single customer has a five star experience. I will work through the night and all weekend long to make a customer happy. I love nothing more than to design and build things that you don’t normally see in this area. I enjoy doing unique projects
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
People see me post pictures of wonderful vacations. We have the pleasure of taking or other things. My wife and I have had the luxury of doing but I don’t think most people know what the other 99% of my week looks like. I wake up at 6 AM every morning, usually watch videos for about an hour of other business owners and financial news. I then get up and get ready for work. I usually work throughout the entire day without taking any breaks often eat lunch on the go about half of the week. I get done working around seven or 8 o’clock The other half of the week I get home around five or six and then go to the gym. I eat dinner every night about 830 or nine then lay in bed and watch TV for a little bit. Usually on the weekends, I’m doing something work related. I probably work 70 hours a week. My desire for a comfortable and amazing future keeps me pushing every day.
