Today we’d like to introduce you to Blake Jones.
Blake, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been interested in tattoos for my entire life. I never expected it to be something I would ever be able to do as a career. When I was 18 years old I decided it was time to take my love of the craft seriously, and put all of my time and effort into being the best artist I could be. Now I’m 27 and I couldn’t imagine what my life would be like without tattooing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been an incredibly difficult road to get to where I am now, but it was worth every bit of it. Health problems forced me to quit tattooing in 2020 and I didn’t return until 2022. Since my return I’ve had a complete revitalization to both my career and my health. The time away helped me truly appreciate how lucky I am to get to do this for a living.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in both black and grey and color realism tattoos. These styles have always stood out to me as the most dynamic and versatile to compose for the purpose of flowing with the body. I specifically specialize in horror tattooing. I am incredibly proud that I’ve developed competence in these two styles which I consider to be among the more difficult styles of artwork. I believe both my knowledge and love of horror movies helps me set myself apart from others.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for those starting out is to focus on multiple styles of art in the beginning until you find your niche. Do it the right way and seek an apprenticeship from a reputable shop instead of developing bad habits on your own. I am a firm believer that anyone can do anything if they put the work in. The struggle of taking the risk to pursue your passion is 100% worth it, and something I would encourage everyone to do
