Meet Bernard Whitehead Jr. of Yah Hayah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bernard Whitehead Jr.

Hi Bernard, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been into fashion, particularly streetwear. Seeing the growth of streetwear fashion within the past 10 years definitely inspired me to create a brand that resonates with me personally.

I noticed how I would spend a lot of money on these brands that I liked, after a while, I’m just like hold on, I might as well create something that I own and means something to me rather than always paying top dollar for these designer brands.

I’ve had the idea of the brand since about 2017, after a lot of behind-the-scenes work, prayer, and brainstorming over time the vision became clearer and in 2020 we launched.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all, the first thing I had to understand was patience. Rather it’s perceived that way or not, nothing happens overnight.

I now understand that a new business is like a garden, you can’t just plant seeds and expect it to grow immediately. You have tend to it, nurture it, water it essentially, and allow it to grow over time. Even when it grows and blooms it takes maintenance to keep it up.

Another struggle initially I had was caring what others may think. For a while, I held back not doing certain things because of opinions of others or what others may say. To be an entrepreneur you have to be bold and confident in what you’re doing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Yah Hayah is a faith-based streetwear clothing brand; however, we are not affiliated with any religious organizations.

We currently specialize in making quality product, we currently offer limited releases. Our goal is to create fashion apparel and garments that will stand the test of time and be around for generations.

I think what will set us apart is the storytelling behind the brand, I think that’s what I’m proud of most. We offer a unique prospective and with that, we plan to create a business model that will drive demand for our product.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t too much believe in luck; I believe output is based on your input. Something my pops always told me.

I’m a firm believer in God and that he created laws that governs our universe. If you’re not moving the right way things won’t align the way you may want. Also, he has a set time for everything under the sun.

I’m extremely blessed to be in a position to grow a business, and I accept all the trails I go through rather in my personal life or “failures” to help me learn and mature and apply it to my business.
