Meet Bec Koop of Kalamazoo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bec Koop.

Hi Bec, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Having faced a unique set of challenges and traumas during my youth and early years, I have gained invaluable perspective on what it takes to overcome significant obstacles and heal deep emotional wounds. Through this journey, I’ve come to realize that healing is not a one-size-fits-all process. There is a vast array of therapeutic approaches available, and success often depends on maintaining an open mind and exploring different modalities.

When I found that traditional talk therapy was no longer effective for me—and at times, seemed to exacerbate my PTSD and prolong my pain—I decided to explore alternative forms of therapy. This decision not only helped me find the healing I needed but also inspired me to offer diverse therapeutic options to support others on their own healing journeys.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey that has brought me to where I am today has been, to say the least, anything but smooth. It has been shaped by physical traumas, the loss of loved ones, along with feelings of abandonment and rejection from people I cherished deeply. Throughout most of my life, I often found myself living on the edge—pushing my limits in unhealthy ways, either numbed by past pain or overwhelmed by a sense of indifference.

Some of these painful experiences may have been preventable with more time, age, and wisdom, while others were simply unavoidable. It wasn’t until my mid-30s, after working with a hypnotherapist, that I experienced a profound shift. This experience fundamentally altered my perspective on the long list of traumas I had endured. I came to realize that I was far stronger than I had ever given myself credit for. Rather than succumbing to a victim mentality, I made the conscious decision to rewrite my narrative in a way that empowered me, transforming myself into a resilient warrior who overcame immense challenges without allowing the pain to define or consume me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
One of the most fulfilling ways I can support my clients is by customizing each session to exactly what they need in that moment. Just like talk therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, I offer a variety of healing modalities to meet my clients where they’re at. Sometimes, they come to me looking to fill their cup with love, joy, positivity, and a little extra excitement. Other times, they need a peaceful, calming experience to help them unwind and recharge.

Before each session, I like to ask my clients what they’re hoping to release, what they’re looking to gain, and how they’re feeling in their bodies. With this in mind, I design a session that fits their needs—whether it’s a playful, fun-filled experience with movement, dance, and creative expression, or a more nurturing, soul-soothing journey that begins with gentle somatic movements and flows into a relaxing Reiki session on the massage table, enhanced by a personalized sound healing experience.

I truly believe that no two sessions (even with the same client) are ever the same. Each day brings new emotions, new insights, and different things to process. That’s why I ask my clients to fill out a fun yet thoughtful questionnaire before every session—so I can show up fully prepared to meet them exactly where they are on their healing journey.

How do you define success?
I define success as the ability to learn new skills that help you adapt with greater grace to the constant changes and unexpected challenges life throws your way.

Having spent much of my life chasing academic, professional, and financial “success,” I’ve come to realize that, at times, these achievements alone aren’t enough to bring true happiness. You might have the dream job, the financial security, and the status, but without loved ones to share meaningful moments with or passions that keep you excited about life, it can feel a bit empty and routine.

But when you start to appreciate the simple joys—like a peaceful walk in nature, snuggles from a pet or loved one, or a deep appreciation for a sunrise or sunset—you begin to realize that there’s so much more to life than society’s traditional definition of success.

For me, success is waking up each day with a positive outlook, nourishing my body with wholesome meals, making time for reflection, gentle movement, and cherishing time spent with those I love. These are the moments that truly make life rich and meaningful—and they’re absolutely worth fighting for as they are truly priceless!
