Today we’d like to introduce you to Autumn Yost.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We started doing CrossFit in our garage in 2012, we invited a few friends, and the rest is history After we built about a 25-person following and offered a few daily classes for free; I (Autumn) got certified in December 2012. Soon after being certified, we decided to officially Affiliate with CrossFit and open our first location. In March 2013, we officially became CrossFit Triple River. We went all in, hosted local competitions, added kids and 60+ classes, started a youth powerlifting team, and worked our butts off to be successful. During our first 5 years, we’ve raised 3 kids, both worked full or part time and ran a business we loved. Within a few years, we were outgrowing our space and looking to expand. Brock and I are both natives of Three Rivers and really wanted to stay in our local community to spread the message of health, wellness, and community. I grew up on a farm next to a 65-acre gravel pit that was now closed. We built relationships with members who became our investors and business partners to help move Triple River CrossFit to The Pit Fitness Ranch a 65-acre former gravel pit. FIRST, in February 2018 we opened So Flexy Yoga by renovating a former truck and equipment garage already on the property. Once that was complete, we moved on to building the new location for our CrossFit business. In April 2019, we officially opened our new location in a brand new 10,000 sqft steel building. Since moving to The Pit Fitness Ranch, we’ve hosted competitions for athletes all around the world. We’ve had athletes from Brazil, Iceland, and Canada stay locally to train at our location. With the help of our investors, we’ve had Fat Tire bike races, Relay Ruck Event, 5k trail runs, and lots of fitness daily at So Flexy Yoga, Triple River CrossFit, and 3R Jiu Jitsu.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely lots of ups and downs! Doubling our building space when we moved to The Pit meant lots of sacrifices. Brock and I downsized our house and our lives to afford the big move.
One year after opening at The Pit, we were forced to shut down due to Covid. Thanks to our amazing community of people who continued to support us while we were shut down, we were able to stay in business. While closed, hosted Zoom workouts, got creative on the property with outdoor workouts, and fought to continue our success when people needed health and fitness more than ever.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
We are one of approx. 10,000 CrossFit Gyms, aka “Boxes “in the world. We offer group fitness classes known as CrossFit classes. CrossFit, by definition, is “Constantly varied functional movement performed at a high intensity.” We are most proud of our community. We are an all-inclusive place where we’re all equals; hence our tagline “Come for the workout, stay for the community.” We want people to know that being fit and living a healthy life is for everyone! There is no set look, body type or size that is for CrossFit. We’re so proud to bring our passion for health and fitness to a town and community that we love so much.
And because we realize CrossFit is not the only beneficial fitness program out there, we also opened So Flexy Yoga and added Brazilian Jiu-jitsu to our classes in order to being as many fitness modalities to one place.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Good people and good things are in your community if you look in the right places. It’s so easy to focus on the negative in an area you live but know good is there if you look in the right places.
