Meet Aubrey Schupbach of Zion Well

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrey Schupbach

Hi Aubrey, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My husband and I opened our first yoga studio in Ypsilanti MI in June of 2019 with a mission rooted in mental health and community building. We have first hand experience with how yoga has been a tool to stabilize our mental health and the profound power of having a support system around you. Since, we have opened a second studio in Ann Arbor, MI and enjoy traveling the world with amazing groups of people through our yearly retreats. We have taken trips to Costa Rica, Iceland, Greece and more. Where we are today is because we deeply care about people and supporting them through the various seasons of life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our greatest struggle that we are now grateful for was the 2020 pandemic. So shortly after opening we were mandated to close for 9+ months total. In this time we built out a video library and streaming platform that we had always dreamed of. We began teaching yoga outdoors in parks as well to get people back together. We kept our community company during all of those shut down periods and in the end we really thrived. We now know that we could make it through anything as a business because of our great community and our strong partnerships.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Zion Well is more than just a yoga studio—it’s a community-centered wellness space dedicated to mental health, yoga and holistic well-being.

We specialize in alignment based movement and nervous system regulation, offering a diverse range of yoga classes—including Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative, and Sculpt—as well as workshops, retreats, and private healing sessions.

What sets us apart is our deep commitment to inclusivity, education, and community support. We believe yoga is for every body and every mind, and we create spaces where people can show up exactly as they are. We are an LGBTQIA2+ safe space welcoming and honoring all identities.

We are also passionate about education, providing teachers and community members with tools to deepen their understanding of yoga philosophy, anatomy, alignment, and more. Through workshops, teacher training, and ongoing learning opportunities, we help individuals grow both in their personal practice and their ability to share yoga with others.

People that come to our studio can tell it’s very different right away. In the studio before classes people are always talking, getting to know each other and forming real friendships. This helps create that sense of belonging right from the beginning. At Zion Well, we help people live well.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Resilience has been a key factor in the success of Zion Well because it has allowed us to adapt, grow, and stay true to our mission, even in the face of challenges.

Running a yoga studio—especially one focused on mental health, breathwork, and inclusivity—requires the ability to navigate uncertainty. From shifting industry trends and economic fluctuations to the evolving needs of our community, resilience has helped us remain flexible, innovative, and deeply committed to our values.

Adapting to Change: Whether it’s introducing new class styles, evolving our teacher training programs, or expanding into retreats, resilience has allowed us to embrace change as an opportunity rather than a setback.
Overcoming Challenges: Every business faces obstacles, but resilience has given us the mindset to pivot, problem-solve, and keep moving forward without losing sight of our purpose.
Holding Space for Others: As a business rooted in healing and transformation, our ability to cultivate resilience within ourselves has helped us create a space where our students, teachers, and community feel supported, seen, and empowered in their own journeys.
Commitment to Growth: Resilience isn’t just about survival—it’s about evolution. It has fueled our dedication to education, sustainability, and service, ensuring that Zion Well remains a place of lasting impact.
At its core, resilience has helped us stay grounded in our mission while growing with intention, allowing Zion Well to thrive as more than just a yoga studio—it’s a movement.
