Today we’d like to introduce you to Aries Skye.
Hi Aries, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In the literary world, I’ve penned the name, Aries Skye. This name was chosen because I wanted to use something unique to me. As a proud Aries woman who believes that the sky is limitless when obtaining your dreams, I chose the pen name Aries Skye, not only as a representation of myself and my work but also as my mantra. Writing is in my DNA. I’ve known from a very young age that I was born to write. When I was a teenager, I always wrote cute couples stories based on the relationship experiences of friends and myself. When I dove into the publishing realm, it was a no-brainer that I would write romance stories. My specific niche is penning black romance stories. I have a dynamic publisher who stands behind the concept of my work, and I am excited to introduce my debut novel, Love on the Ninth Floor to the world through Black Odyssey Media coming in 2023.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a writer, finding my distinct voice is something I work toward diligently. I’m sure it will change and mature as I grow in my craft as it always has, but that is a natural state that I welcome. If my writing was still the same year over year then I would press the panic button because it would mean that I’m incapable of further development. As I am just beginning my publishing journey, the road has been smooth. If I experience bumps along the way, I will always accept that is a part of the growth process and my personal journey. Setbacks are only set-ups for greater comebacks.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As I stated, I write solely black romance stories. When I’m asked why it’s simple, black people aren’t seen as the standard in society, and I wanted to showcase the beauty in relationships with everyday black people. Our lives are not unlike others. We are the norm, and I believe it’s time that the publishing industry gains an understanding of that so that we are seen as less of the exception so that the world can become more accepting of our stories. I am so proud of my four-book standalone series that I am penning entitled the “Love On” series. These stories will add a fresh, fun, and modern perspective on black love.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
God’s grace and mercy over my life makes me happy. Every day we wake up to countless stories of despair and death all over the world, and it is truly disheartening. Each morning that I am able to rise with all my faculties knowing that I and my family and friends are safe and have been granted the grace of life, I am happy. I have another chance to live life abundantly and bask in God’s blessings. I have an opportunity to embrace my gifts and make my mark on the world while loving on others and being an all-around decent human being. To me, that is exactly what happiness is.
