Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Blackburn
Hi Anthony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My Name is Anthony “Babyface” Blackburn and I am the Powerslap Welterweight World Champion!
I was born February of 91 in Detroit at Hudsel Hospital. I grew up in the downriver area mostly Wyandotte. I always spent my time playing sports outside with friends, skateboarding, riding bikes around town, and always enjoying nature! I was always a competitive person and always strive to do my best at things I set out to excel at. Two years ago I signed up for Dana White’s Powerslap. My journey these past 2 years climbing the ranks and building lasting friendships through a brand new sport has been amazing! I’m still undefeated and looking to hold onto the belt for as long as possible. The opportunities that I have gained have been equally surprising and am definitely looking forward to the future!!!! I’m always representing Michigan everytime I am on the screen walking out for my matches! I’ve started my own #righton1army movement and will be continuing this strategy of striking right on one! I love the states of Michigan and have family ans friends all over the state. I have hopes of having my own restaurant or business that I can build up and use to help others! I always aim to be an upstanding person and have a positive outlook on life!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles i have faced with life has been just being stubborn. I try hard not to ask to much from others. Everybody needs help at times and it’s hard for me to accept that I’m sometimes to humble . I try to learn from my mistakes in life. Mistakes struggles can be overcome if you have good support! I’m very thankful to have a great family that helps me out when I’m in need!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Striker in the Welterweight division of Powerslap. It’s a new combat sports in which competitors trade slaps back and forth to determine a winner! It is a professional and sanctioned sport with judges and referees and a commission that keep the athletes honest and safe. I am known in the sport as “Babyface” because I shave my beard before every match to have a younger appearance. I thought it would be a cool gimmick seeing as I look young but I’m also tough! I always strike with my right hand on one. As a Striker you can choose to strike on one, two, or three. It’s the base of my #righton1army movement! I’m trying to get more Strikers and people to support this movement and so far it’s been really good!!! I cannot wait to see what the future holds for me!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor is very tough. You have to trust someone fully and spend a lot of time around them learning their ideas. With Powerslap I’ve had the opportunity to have relationships with a lot of great people. Participating in podcasts and other sources of media has definitely been the biggest factor in networking for me. I’m always looking to get my name out there through media outlets.
