Meet Angie Dodson of Adora Studio of Hair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Dodson

Hi Angie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into hairstyling began in fifth grade when I wrote a book report using my mom’s cosmetology textbook and demonstrated a haircut for my entire class. That moment sparked a passion that only grew stronger. By 10th grade, I was so eager to pursue my dream that I enrolled in beauty school, attending an hour each day during the week and Saturdays. I earned my cosmetology license just a few weeks before graduating high school. This early start set the foundation for a career I’ve been passionate about ever since.

Continuing education has always been at the heart of my journey. While working full-time behind the chair, I earned my bachelor’s degree, a milestone that pushed me to keep growing in my craft and my business. I regularly take classes to stay inspired and elevate the services I offer. What I love most about being a hairstylist is the instant satisfaction of seeing my art completed every day. Unlike other forms of art that take months or years to finish, hairstyling allows me to bring beauty to life in real time while building deep, personal connections with my clients. Living and working in a small community like Ludington feels like such a blessing. I adore hearing my summer residents’ stories when they return each year, and I’m incredibly grateful for the way my clients lift me up daily. Being a hairstylist is more than a career; it’s a way to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others while doing what I love most.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For me, the road has been remarkably smooth, and I truly believe that life has a way of working itself out. I was incredibly blessed to start my career working alongside my mom in the salon she owned. Sharing that time with her was such a gift, and it laid a strong foundation for my career. When she retired, I felt inspired to take the next step, and a few years later, I opened my own salon, Adora Studio of Hair.

The name says it all—Adora is a one-chair studio where I get to work one-on-one with my clients. This setup allows me to focus entirely on each person, creating a space where real connections are made. Every step of my journey has felt so natural and meant to be, and I’m deeply grateful for how everything has fallen into place.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality I believe has been most important to my success is truly caring—not just about the work I do but about the people I have the privilege to serve. Spreading kindness and creating a positive, welcoming space has always been at the heart of my approach. I also believe that success comes from a commitment to growth, which is why I continually strive to educate myself on the latest trends and techniques. Staying open to new ideas and being willing to step out of my comfort zone has allowed me to evolve and offer my clients the best possible experience.

For me, success isn’t just about achieving great results—it’s about making meaningful connections and ensuring each guest leaves my chair feeling valued, confident, and uplifted.
