Today we’d like to introduce you to Andi Sherman.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Andi Sherman, and I’ve always believed in big dreams and small towns.
After building a career in the bridal beauty industry out in Southern California, I found my way back home to Indiana—where I now raise my three kids and pour my heart into restoring a historic 1864 building in the heart of Howe. What started as an intrusive thought to create a beautiful space for creativity and community, has resulted in the founding of the The Kingsbury Arts & Event Center—a gathering place for art, storytelling, local businesses, and everyday magic.
We’re not just renovating a building—we’re helping breathe life back into a town, one event, one story, and one cup of coffee at a time.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road—but I don’t think the best ones ever are. There have been plenty of challenges—financial hurdles, unexpected setbacks, and moments of doubt. Restoring a historic building, running a business, raising a family—it’s all a little chaotic and a lot of heart.
But every challenge has taught me something. Every delay made the vision clearer. And honestly, the bumps in the road have made the destination feel that much more meaningful. I’ve had to get creative, stay persistent, and rely on an incredible community of people who believe in what we’re building.
So no, it hasn’t been smooth—but it’s been worth it. Every step has led us closer to something beautiful.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At my core, I’m a creative—whether I’m holding a makeup brush, a hammer, or a clipboard. I founded Something Blue Stylists in 2007 as an on-location bridal beauty collective, and I’ve spent the last two decades helping women feel beautiful, confident, and celebrated on one of the most meaningful days of their lives. Our work is rooted in timeless beauty, calm energy, and creating an experience that’s just as memorable as the finished look.
But my heart has always pulled me toward community, too. That’s what led me to The Kingsbury Arts & Event Center in Howe, Indiana—a historic 1864 building that I’m in the process of restoring and reimagining as a creative gathering place. We host everything from tea parties to art workshops to community story hours, and it’s become this magical intersection of small-town charm, creative energy, and meaningful connection.
What I’m most proud of is the way these two worlds—beauty and community—have blended together. I get to create spaces where people feel seen, inspired, and like they belong. I think what sets me apart is that I don’t just do one thing. I build things that feel personal, intentional, and full of heart—whether it’s a wedding morning or a neighborhood open mic night. Everything I do starts with love and a little sparkle—and I’ve found that’s usually enough to get the job done.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about LaGrange County is the quiet creativity that runs through it. This area is full of incredibly talented makers, artists, and small business owners who are creating beautiful, meaningful things—often from their own homes, barns, or tucked-away studios. There’s this deep, almost unspoken pride in craftsmanship here. People still make things with their hands, with heart, and with purpose.
It’s a community where creativity isn’t flashy—it’s authentic. Whether it’s handmade furniture, fresh-baked goods, fiber arts, ceramics, or small-batch anything, there’s a spirit of resourcefulness and artistry that I find so inspiring. And what makes it even more special is how willing people are to collaborate, support each other, and share what they know. That’s the kind of creative community I’m proud to be part of—and one I’m constantly trying to elevate and celebrate through the work we do at The Kingsbury.
