Meet Amy Fredrickson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Fredrickson.

Hi Amy, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Before I tell you my story, tell me yours! Normally I would want to dig deeper over a cup of coffee or a bowl of curry but since we are not able to see each other face to face, let me get things started. I believe that everyone has a story to tell and that sharing your personal experiences is an essential part of life. Not only that but it creates community and helps others know that they are not alone. I want to be used as a vessel to share stories whether it be on-screen acting out a person’s struggles/hopes/fears, traveling to different countries to learn from others’ stories around the world, or talking to someone over a home-cooked meal. So much of the time, social media gives us this glossy, filtered version of life but whatever happened to keeping things real? Asking this question was the motivation of me getting into the talent/model/writer/actress career path in the first place. (Yes, I know that’s a lot of titles haha) Maybe I should start calling myself simply a “storyteller”. If I can help encourage others to be open and honest, and in turn make a dent of empathy and love, then I have done my job. When we are able to understand each other a little better the world becomes a little better. So, there you are a quick story from the book of Amy the Story-Teller.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As I’m sure you can tell, my career path is anything but black and white. It’s a rarity to have so many different job titles after your name that somehow mold into one career, and saying the title “storyteller” without further explanation can just add to the confusion. Therefore, I have paved my own way in this story-telling career with leaps of faith, a passion for helping others, and lots of prayers. Self-doubt and anxiety are practically woven into my DNA, and this led to me spending nearly a decade running from my “what if” dreams such as: “what if” one person could make a difference, “what if” one person could have a voice, “what if” I could help in a big way. (That person couldn’t possibly be me, could it?) I sometimes wonder if people like Mother Teresa and Albert Einstein asked themselves these same “what ifs” and what would’ve happened if they didn’t take a step forward in faith to do what they felt called to do. One thing is certain: I am called to share stories because people are special and important and matter-it’s as simple as that.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a mutt of talents that range from print work, videography, writing, talent, and travel. When mixed together they make up something really special! This past year I have started sharing my story through a vlog format and am very intentional about showing the quirky and real side of me. I also love being in front of the camera trying new foods and seeing new places and cultures that tell a different story. Once, on a video shoot, the director asked my thoughts of new I MAX video they were putting out and all I could think about was how beautiful the stories of the people in the video were. Stories are always on my mind.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I want other people’s stories to be known and nurtured. I care deeply about people and when we learn about other cultures and stories this world can be a better, more empathetic place. Take a moment and ask someone out to coffee and get to know them better. It starts with all of us. I would personally love to travel more and have my passport ready and waiting but sometimes the more meaningful stories are the ones right around the corner from you. As far as the model and talent industry I see more people of color and different body shapes and am LOVING IT. I am all about embracing the beauty of who you are and I am so glad that this is becoming more prevalent in media.
