Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali Smith.
Hi Ali, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As I approach my ninth year in real estate, I can’t help but reflect on how far this journey has taken me, not just in my career, but as a person. It’s been a road full of ups and downs, moments of triumph and challenge, and countless lessons that have shaped who I am today.
When I first started in real estate, I thought I was simply stepping into a new profession, helping people buy and sell homes. What I didn’t realize was how much it would teach me about people, perseverance, and purpose. This business has a way of testing you, your patience, your mindset, and your belief in yourself. But through every high and low, I’ve learned, grown, and evolved.
Over time, real estate became more than a career. It became a bridge, connecting me to my community, to leadership opportunities, and to the importance of giving back. I’ve had the chance to be part of initiatives that support local families, mentor others stepping into this field, and contribute to causes that truly matter. Those moments of service and connection have been some of the most rewarding experiences of all.
Real estate truly changed my life. It brought me out of a dark place and gave me the opportunity to become a light for others. If it wasn’t for this path, I can honestly say there are only two other places I might have ended up, and neither are places I would wish on anyone. This career didn’t just give me direction; it gave me purpose and redemption.
Because I didn’t find my way until later in life, I’ve always felt driven to work harder and to be living proof that even if you start late, you can still create success and fulfillment. That said, I always encourage others to start seeking their path sooner and to not waste time doubting themselves.
My children are my greatest motivation. They are the reason I push myself, the reason I strive to be better every day. I want them to see that no matter where you come from or how long it takes to find your way, you can still build something beautiful and meaningful. That same belief is what has led me to work with and mentor youth throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region, helping them see their own potential, find direction, and believe that their story can be one of triumph too.
Looking back, I never could have imagined that this path would lead me here, to a place where business meets purpose, and where success is measured not just in transactions, but in impact. Real estate opened the door, but it’s the people, the lessons, and the opportunity to give back that have made the journey truly meaningful.
As I look ahead, my focus is on continuing to grow, not just as a professional, but as a person who inspires change. I want to keep building a legacy rooted in integrity, service, and hope. One that shows others that no matter where you start, your story can still lead to greatness. Real estate may have been my vehicle, but purpose became my destination.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not! it was far from smooth. Like any worthwhile journey, there were plenty of obstacles along the way. Early on, I faced self-doubt, financial uncertainty, and the pressure of trying to build a business from the ground up while still figuring out who I was. Real estate is not an easy industry. It demands thick skin, consistency, and faith, even when things don’t seem to be moving in your favor.
There were moments when I questioned if I was on the right path. Deals fell through, opportunities slipped away, and there were times when it felt like I was taking one step forward and two steps back. But every challenge taught me something, how to adapt, how to persevere, and how to keep showing up even when it’s hard.
The obstacles became my greatest teachers. They built my character and prepared me for the growth and leadership roles I hold today. Looking back, I realize that the struggles weren’t setbacks, they were setups for everything I was meant to do. The journey wasn’t smooth, but it was exactly what it needed to be to shape me into who I am now.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In addition to my real estate career, I serve as the Regional Program Manager for The ROCK Center for Youth Development and its signature program, Discover You™. In this role, I help expand our direct services throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region, ensuring more students have access to positive, growth-centered opportunities that help them build confidence, resilience, and direction for their future.
I manage a team of coaches who go into middle school and high school classrooms, as well as other unique spaces, to engage youth in meaningful conversations about self-discovery, goal-setting, and life skills. I also have the privilege of coaching our self-authored content and curriculum myself, which allows me to stay connected to the heart of our mission and empowering young people to see their own potential.
But what I’m most known for and what I’m most passionate about is connecting with youth on a personal level. One of the most meaningful parts of my work is mentoring students one-on-one and facilitating open, honest conversations that help them feel seen and heard. I regularly share my story with students in the Bay County Juvenile Justice Center, where I’ve learned that sometimes the most powerful way to reach a young person is simply to meet them where they are and show them that change is possible.
Seeing a student’s mindset shift, that moment when they realize they’re capable of more than they ever imagined is what keeps me motivated. At the end of the day, my mission is to be the kind of influence I wish I had when I was younger: someone who believes in you, even when you’re still learning how to believe in yourself.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Nothing makes me happier than spending time with my family and loved ones, creating lasting memories together. We only get so much time on this earth, and I want to spend mine showing the people I love how much they truly mean to me.
For me, happiness isn’t about material things or accomplishments, it’s about connection, presence, and gratitude. Whether it’s sharing a meal, laughing together, or just being in the same space, those are the moments that mean the most. My family is my foundation and my “why.” They remind me of what really matters and keep me grounded through all of life’s ups and downs.
At the end of the day, success doesn’t mean much if you don’t have people to share it with. The joy of making memories, watching my children and grandson grow, and being surrounded by love. That’s what truly fills my heart.
