Today we’d like to introduce you to Alesa Jamison.
Hi Alesa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
After teaching and working with children for 15+ years, I decided I needed a change of scenery. In 2016, I had my 3rd child and no desire to continue in the education field. I attended cosmetology school in hopes of becoming a stylist and salon owner. I’ve always had a passion for hair and became the local in-house beautician because of my skills. I wanted to step it up a notch and offer more by becoming a licensed stylist. My hobby turned into my career and now I am a license cosmetologist and the owner of The Royalty Collection Hair Studio. The Royalty Collection is located in Rochester Hills, MI. Aside from being a business owner, I am also a single mother of 4 children (ages 3, 6, 10, and 19). One of the main reasons I wanted to own my own business was to be able to have flexibility for my children’s sake.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Completing cosmetology school as a mother and teacher was the hardest challenge. I taught during the day and attending school in the evenings. Doing both along with raising children slowed down the process and I knew I would never complete school without making it my priority. I decided to stop teaching to focus on school and switched my night classes to full-time days. This allowed me the opportunity to not only focus on completing school, but also build my brand and attract clientele by working at the salon in the evenings.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Royalty Collection is an online retail and hair store. You can also purchase products in-store or by visiting www.TheRoyaltyCollection.com. My goal was to make hair products and accessories more accessible for my clients. This came from recommendation of what they wished I had so that they wouldn’t have to make a store run after their appointments. I took their suggestions and did my research to find vendors that could help me achieve my vision. As an extension specialist, the first product available was hair extensions. After request from clients and using other brands of hair, I decided to offer as many extension products as I could to compete with larger brands. Because I produced a quality product, I began getting repeat customers and referrals. I focused on building my website to make the products accessible 24/7 and to look more professional like the bigger businesses that some of my clients were use to using. I am proud to see what was once a website for a single product turn into a website with almost 30 products.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most is seeing my customers satisfied in the delivery of services rendered or products purchases. I believe brands are built based off word of mouth. My goal is to provide above excellent customer service and always make sure the client/customer is satisfied.
