Today we’d like to introduce you to Alec Faber.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started out with opening a personal training /fitness location in 2010. After running that for a couple of years, I saw there was a need for outdoor fitness. Obstacle course races were becoming popular, and I found that people enjoyed exercising outdoors when the weather nice. I created a small outdoor fitness area with trails and equipment for people to train on. As the attention grew for that type of workout, the property where Fortitude is now was for sale. We put the pencil to paper and started mapping out what we could possible turn this old nine-hole golf course into.
Purchasing the property in 2016 made the vision a reality. Over the next couple years, I continued to pursue the outdoor fitness by having trails for people to walk/run on, host 5k events, and continue with personal training outside.
Being an old golf course, there was a clubhouse that we completely renovated. Adding a large patio and a new look, we were becoming a place to rent/host events.
The events and renting the clubhouse started taking off, leaving less time to focus on the fitness side of the business and property.
We have tried multiple different ventures, from hosting concerts, outdoor movies, weddings, and more.
Being that the land was once used as a golf course, we knew that the soil was rich with nutrients.
Covid hit. Indoor events were put out to a halt. It was time to start thing more outside the box. We started working the ground and adding the “farm” side of the business. We cleared an 8-acre area for a corn maze, 8 -10 acres for pumpkins, and 2 acres for a U-cut flower field.
What is Fortitude Farms and Events?
We are an indoor/outdoor recreational event location.
We offer space for full weekend weddings, private parties, and large events. We have a corn maze, a tubing hill for the winter months, a U-cut flower area with over 70 beds and 80 different varieties of flowers, and sand volleyball leagues.
Over the past couple years, we have put in a lot of work. We are excited to bring people an experience when they come here.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have had our ups and downs, highs and lows, and everything in between. My wife and I run the business. We have 2 little boys that also keep us busy. The balance between work and family is becoming easier.
Covid made us put on our thinking caps. Having the clubhouse shut down, we started thinking about what more we could do outdoors.
Owning and running a business is not easy. It takes a lot of work and dedication to build something from scratch. It can be devastating, and it can be rewarding.
For us, we wouldn’t change it for anything. We watch our boys grow up outdoors, and they see what it takes and all the hard work we put in.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are an indoor/outdoor event and recreational business. We want people to enjoy our space as much as we do. We want everyone who comes here to have an unforgettable experience.
We offer something for every season for people to enjoy.
From tubing in the winter to weddings, events, and flower cutting in the summer and pumpkins and the corn maze in the fall. Each season we are trying provide an experience for people to enjoy.
Check out our website for all the different experiences we offer.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family makes me the happiest. I have a wife who supports and works extremely hard at making our vision a reality. Our 2 boys, Henry (7) and Walter (5) get to experience their life outdoors and being a part of the family business.
Along with family, we enjoy watching and hearing people talk about the time they spent here.
