Today we’d like to introduce you to Aisha Cummings.
Hi Aisha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My love for fashion and thrifting goes way back. I have been thrifting for a long as I can remember. My mom and dad were huge thrifters and always took my brother and I with them whenever they would go. My love for fashion goes way back as well. I remember going through my mom’s Vogue magazines, getting outfit ideas, and then dressing up my barbies. At six years old, haha. I loved playing dress up too. I had the biggest dress-up box and I would put on runway shows for my family. Fashion and dressing up has always been one of my favorite things. My friend Madi asked me to help me style a photo shoot with her, and we ended up getting published and that motivated me to take my styling career seriously. So, when I had the opportunity to bring all my handpicked-styled, thrifted pieces to a pop-up shop in Eastown, I took the opportunity!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. It definitely is a lot of work being an entrepreneur and being a young mom. It was definitely hard to juggle both at first, but we have a routine down now and it makes it so much easier. Plus, I have a super supportive family which helps tremendously.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a wardrobe stylist and a vintage reseller. I am best known for Purple Reign Styles my thrifting and styling brand. I style editorial photo shoots to styling clothing brand shoots. And then I do my vintage pop-ups where I get to bring my handpicked vintage pieces to different parts of Michigan! I am super proud I have been able to have a career doing what I love and am passionate about. And being able to juggle it all raising young kids. I am different than most because when I style clients, I use my own vintage pieces, which I think sets me apart from most stylists.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memories would have to be visiting my dad on the weekends. He had this old Volvo and would play old-school hip hop, everything. We’d listen to music for hours while we traveled to Ann Arbor where he stayed. We would have the most fun there. He lived right on the University of Michigan’s campus. There was always so much to do. The atmosphere was always exciting and inspiring. Not to mention they had amazing thrift stores. I remember finding a Vote for Pedro shirt at once, and begged him to get it. I rocked that tee for a good week at school when I got back home. Haha.
