Life & Work with Uta Brauser of Michigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Uta Brauser.

Uta, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I came to Detroit from New York City, my favorite and main stomping ground with art, but was attracted to the scene and street art in Detroit. When I discovered a few situations with art, free spirited and bohemian installations combined with opportunities in Real Estate to rehab houses for very low purchase prices, I was very inclined to move here.
What really gave me the last win was that the population does enjoy the creativity and art in its many forms, particularly also music, and an artist is welcomed!
The house that is my main art project here is next to the former Packard Plant, and became a hub for artists as collective. The Packard Art Collective.
The instagram is @packardarthouse.

I use the house for murals, now also sculptural installations on the walls, and many events with music and art.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Home rehabilitation of old houses has its challenges.
The neighbors are peaceful and good, no complaints

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have first worked with clay and polymere clays to do sculptures of people, figures, dolls, and then switched to a period of paintings and murals.
Now I paint and resumed works with sculpture, large scale in styrofoam, resin and paper mache.
I also am sculpting in clay again, mid size pieces.
My markets are a few gallery shows, art fairs and local fairs and markets, online, always seeking new collectors or customers.

The art “baby” I have, the Packard Art Collective, is a community building and showcasing space, where installations, events, music and interactive art is possible.
It is a continuous evolving process, and it also has made me feel very free with my art and space for other artist’s freedom of expression.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
What led me to work with clay is playing with wet sand in the sand box, I think.
