Life & Work with ToRohn Yancey

Today we’d like to introduce you to ToRohn Yancey.

Hi ToRohn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories. I am currently a Student-Athlete in College maintaining a 3.0 cumulative grade point average or better. I initially Signed to play two sports which are Track & Field along with football. This Past Year I earned a Scholar-Athlete Award from Mid-States Football Association (M.S.F.A). along with that our Team Won the Conference Championship. In Track and Field, I placed Top 15 in our Conference for Throwing In Field Events along with Ranking Top 20 in the National Christian College Athletic Association (N.C.C.A.A) for Shot Put As Well. My next goal is to earn academic awards in track and field. as well as that, I am also the Owner of “Yancey’s Franchise Clothing Co.” in Detroit, Michigan. Yancey’s Franchise is a Company I started in high School that Consists of Clothing as well as Name, Image, And Likeness opportunities for student-athletes. I am currently working towards expanding that portfolio. I believe that my story is relatable to individuals who by any means necessary, keep moving forward. It is a story of faith, hard work, and consistency.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect? I had Humble Beginnings. I have lived in Poverty for most of my life. I was raised by a Single Mother who wasn’t ready for kids at the time. If she did not have help from relatives or My Oldest Brother, My Mom, My Younger Sibling, and I would have been out on the streets more than we had already had to be. This made it hard to focus in grade school as a kid. It was hard to focus on assignments and sports when you didn’t know where you were sleeping that night. The idea of a clothing brand was a far cry I had as a kid who would frequently wear his older or younger cousins’ and siblings’ “Hand me downs”. I would always tell myself when I got older, I’d have my brand and everyone would wear my clothes. I also had a goal of being a college athlete but I graduated high school with a 1.6-grade point average and an 820 SAT score. I had no choice but to go to junior college in North Dakota to play football and Improve my Grades for Universities. Half through my first semester at this school, our football program was permanently discontinued due to our team having the lowest collegiate team GPA in the State of North Dakota along with the COVID-19 virus just beginning to Spread. Through all of that, I transferred back home to a nearby 2-year school and maintained a 3.6 cumulative grade point average from my tenure in community college which was good enough to transfer to Concordia University Ann Arbor on an Academic and Athletic Scholarship.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work? My Brand Yancey’s Franchise is What I am Most Proud of. It is currently a Clothing Brand but in time I hope to expand it to much more than just that. my LLC documents for it say “All-Purpose” so I plan on utilizing that narrative. I believe what sets me apart from other brand owners is my passion for what I do as well as my work ethic. I believe my work ethic is nocturnal and does not have much downtime. I also believe that I am different because I am also trying to learn more and more when it comes to my craft. I believe when you are a sponge of knowledge in your craft it gives you the ability to innovate.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I would like to thank everyone who has supported me until this point.
