Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Nutt.
Hi Tiffany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I am an adventure elopement photographer and filmmaker based in Marquette, Michigan.
My story is somewhat of a non-traditional one — I did everything out of order. I graduated high school, started my degree, worked full-time in my field (graphic design), got married, and went back to school at Northern Michigan University. All while growing my photography business from the ground up. This journey has included a lot of research, mentorships, and education in myself and my business.
It wasn’t until my own wedding that I truly decided to take on wedding photography as a career. It became my passion to serve couples in this way after my own experience with my wedding photographer wasn’t what I was promised. I have since found my passion in adventure elopements and intimate weddings (mainly in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) but also in some of my favorite National Parks like Grand Teton National Park.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If you talk to an artist, you might hear about struggles with imposter syndrome – it’s real. I would say that was the biggest struggle for me (and still is sometimes). Sometimes you meet individuals who bring on the doubts, but then you meet those people who breathe life into your dreams, and it’s super refreshing. The bottom line is that you have to believe that what you’re doing is bringing value to the world.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in capturing people getting married in beautiful places that bring them joy – this is often outdoors. Even more, I focus on adventure elopements and intimate weddings in the Upper Peninsula.
I am known for capturing a couple within the landscape – allowing them to dwell in a moment as a part of nature. As an elopement photographer and filmmaker, I am also extremely conscious of composition and how I can capture my couples well within a scene.
While you may think that I am most proud of features, awards, or Google reviews, I treasure most the words from my couples in voicemails and messages that never are seen by anyone else but us.
A main priority of my brand is to approach what I do with an attitude of service and kindness. The experience that I create and offer to my couples is so important to me – this goes hand in hand with my creative abilities. This could look like capturing film portraits because I know they couple values nostalgia or including a grandparent’s voice in a video edit because they have passed. My goal is to find out what my couples need to feel known.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I have become a big podcast girl; it’s my go-to form of content now. I have been listening to the Rooted Creative Podcast with Dani Purington, How to Film Weddings Podcast, and Office Ladies when I want something different while editing.
