Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor McCann.
Hi Taylor, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
After stepping away from a career in Graphic Design, I knew I wanted to move into a field where I could work more closely with people in my community. That’s when I discovered Esthetics. I enrolled full-time in a local cosmetology school, excited for a fresh start—until COVID-19 shut the school down just a few weeks into the program.
What followed was a long and uncertain journey, but I stayed committed. I graduated in August 2020 and became fully licensed by October of that year. With the industry still navigating constantly changing regulations, job opportunities were limited. To keep my skills sharp, I began offering services to friends and family from my home.
One thing led to another, word spread, and before long, I outgrew my little home setup. Just a few months later, I took a leap and moved into my first rental space—officially turning my passion into the business it is today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
After graduating and stepping into business ownership, I quickly realized just how much there was still to learn. I was figuring things out in real time—mostly through trial and error. Going straight from school to working independently was both exciting and intimidating. Without a mentor to guide me or anyone to help me navigate the industry, I had to learn everything the long way, from perfecting my techniques to understanding how to run a business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve now been in business for five years, and in that time I’ve truly honed my craft. In June of this year, I made the decision to step away from facial services so I could fully dedicate myself to what I love most: body waxing. Brazilian and brow waxing are the heart of my studio. I perform hundreds of them each year, and they’ve become what I’m best known for.
While there are plenty of places to get these services, my clients tell me what keeps them coming back—especially for Brazilians—is my speed, my commitment to cleanliness, and my ability to make people feel comfortable during a service that can feel a little vulnerable. Creating a welcoming, judgment-free environment is just as important to me as delivering smooth, consistent results.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I’ve always been incredibly hardworking—no matter the job. Whether I was blending smoothies, caring for residents in a retirement home, working in corporate America, or nannying, I’ve always given my absolute best. That drive is ultimately what helped me thrive when I chose the entrepreneurial path to becoming an Esthetician.
Owning a waxing business and being a waxer are two very different roles, and I’ve learned to wear both hats—and wear them well. When I don’t understand something or need extra guidance, I’m not afraid to seek out the right people and ask the right questions. That willingness to learn, grow, and adapt has been one of the greatest keys to my success.
