Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanzania Fair & Craig Cooper.
Hi Tanzania & Craig, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Tanzania is from Detroit, Michigan, and Craig is from Landover, Maryland. We met in Washington, DC. We go by “Chunk and Coop” on social media. That’s our nicknames. We’ve been together for 5 years and have overcome many trials and tribulations. Our connection is rooted in God, love, transparency, communication, and safe space. Over these years, we have accomplished so much individually and together. In our early 20s, we both battled with depression and suicidal ideations at different times in our lives before we met. We are mental health advocates and believe in the power of breaking generational curses. We shared our vision, dreams, and goals with each other. In 2018, we had our first feature in RallyUp Magazine together. They invited us to do a photoshoot for the magazine, and we had so much fun. We had a chance to share our story as speakers at the “3rd Annual RallyUp Against the Battlefields of the Mind” event. We both are entrepreneurs, authors, motivation speakers, and podcast host. We recently got engaged this year. We are excited to get married next year!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road for us. In 2019, Tanzania found out that she has a health issue called “uterine myoma.” These are non-cancerous tumors in the uterus. They are also known as “fibroids.” It causes prolong periods, heavy bleeding, and pelvic pain. One day she was in so much pain that she couldn’t even move. Craig encouraged her to go to the hospital, and that’s when she received the news. It’s hard for Craig to see Tanzania go through that pain. He’s always there to help if Tanzania needs the heating pad, a hug, tea, pain medication, etc. He is very patience with her through it all. Craig helped Tanzania find different healthier options and pushed her in the gym. He even changed his lifestyle to support Tanzania so she doesn’t feel like she has to go through this experience alone. They’ve both learned to trust the process and trust God. They are still dealing with his as of today and hoping for the fibroids to dissolve through changing to a healthier lifestyle. They are looking forward to having healthy kids, and they don’t want this health issue to interfere with the childbearing.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Tanzania is a serial entrepreneur. She recently merged all of her businesses into one entity which is called UnLock’N Your Freedom LLC. UnLock’N Your Freedom is a Detroit-based consulting firm providing exceptional business coaching and life coaching services. We serve leaders, aspiring entrepreneurs, nonprofits, for-profits, and startup companies to develop strategic change to achieve desired outcomes.
Craig Cooper is the Founder and CEO of Uplift Kings. Uplift Kings’ mission is to break the stigma of mental health. We are a global brand, and we connect with boys and men of all races and ethnicities. We normalize conversations to help them find their inner strength and share life stories with each other.
We both specialize in business and real estate. We help Detroit residents secure homes through Detroit Land Bank. We facilitate workshops, events, and speaking engagements. We are known for giving other people hope to find love and/or love again as well as motivating others, being authentic and speaking out about mental health.
We are most proud of becoming authors at the same time and breaking generational curses. Our children will have a better life than we did. They will not have to deal with our past traumas because we’ve both been through therapy.
What set you apart? The thing that sets us apart is that we show people are imperfections. We don’t try to be something that we are not. We are transparent about the things that we go through individually and together to help others.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
We don’t believe in luck. God did it. We have a spiritual connection with God. He guides us on our journey every step of the way. If it had not been for God, we would not be where we are today. He has open doors for new opportunities. During the pandemic, God gave Craig the vision for Uplift Kings and opened up his heart to start sharing his story to the world. He had an interview with an international podcast called “Men’s Talk TV” that open up so many doors. He has been on over 25 interviews talking about his journey.
In 2019, Tanzania received the opportunity to go to study abroad in Capetown, Southern Africa during her MBA program. She also was chosen by Southern New Hampshire to be a part of their 2022 Marketing Campaign. The production team did a 2-day film to share her story to the world.
Last but not least, God brought them together to make each other better and help others all over the world.
