Life & Work with Tamara Mechael of Michigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Mechael.

Hi Tamara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started professionally writing songs in the studio around 5th/6th grade in Eastpointe at The Disc Ltd. Recording Studio. My sister, Farrah, was recording original songs so they brought me in to write for her. We both grew up classically trained and singing at the Detroit Opera House along with at Catholic Church. I’d been writing short stories and songs since I was a young child, and learning that songwriting could actually be a longterm, professional career drastically changed the trajectory of my life when I was around 10.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all, but no roads well traveled are smooth! As with anything, there have been major lows and even greater highs. Pursuing a career in the music industry doesn’t mean life stops around you; you still have to face the trials and tribulations that come with being human. The difference, however, is that you have your art to keep you going and give your purpose. The hardest trials are not the ones that come with the career, they are the unassociated ones that happen during it. Deciding to keep going amidst the tragedies of life is one thing artists have to do time and time again throughout their careers. The biggest struggle- and I think many artists can relate- is persisting. However, many of us would have it no other way!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known or my lyrical and poetic songwriting, insanely fast turnaround, and ever-flowing ideas. My brain does not stop, which is a blessing and a curse. I write all types of music, but I definitely specialize in pop and classical! I write from the heart and with genuine care for the souls of the people who hear the music I write. I am proud of Catholic my faith that has, against all odds, become stronger than ever after over a decade in the music industry. What I want people to learn from the songs and stories I write is to keep faith, have hope, and remain in love.

What were you like growing up?
As the younger sibling of two girls, I have always been the baby of the family. As a young girl, I was daring and clever. I had a strong personality and a ton of love to give. I was always interested in music and film above all else. Sports were never my thing but all the power to those who enjoy it! I actually set up an acting profile online when I was in third grade (the link is still active) and had headshots taken to begin my acting career. This was before I knew songwriting was a career, of course! I was also an immensely avid reader, having taught myself how to read at age 3. I’d stay up all night reading the classics starting in first grade and completed both the Twilight and Harry Potter series in grade 2.
