Today we’d like to introduce you to Shakira Yodora. 

Shakira, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am certain that most business owners could agree starting up a small business is challenging especially when you don’t have the necessary resources and guidance to get started. I started my entrepreneurial journey in 2020. I created YODORA which is my underwear brand I designed for both men and women. I had a vision to create products that were essential necessities for everyday living. The 2020 global pandemic was my stimuli. There was a time you walked inside of a department store and the shelves that once housed socks, hygiene products, and undergarments were empty with the exception of empty packaging leftover. Everything was on back order and shipment holds. I created YODORA brand to provide comfortable undergarments which can also be worn as yoga garments, exercise wardrobe, and everyday loungewear. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Struggle builds character. I would not choose to run a small business any other way. In my opinion, I believe that struggling gives you the drive to do more and be more. When it comes to running a small business, especially in the retail industry, not every day does customers make a purchase or does someone give you a social media shoutout. While running a small business you have to be focused. I have woken up to over 1k sales and other days no sales at all. At times this could be very discouraging, yet I use that as a time to change things up for my brand. I normalize asking myself questions like “what can I change about the way I promote my brand, “can I promote my brand more or less”, “are their different times I could promote my brand”. Running a small business will not be a smooth road so the struggles that do arise I approach with caution and evaluate before giving a reaction to them. Struggles only hinder your business if you let them otherwise use the struggles and learn from them. 

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been in the entrepreneurial industry for 3 years now. I also take pride in marketing and promoting as a brand ambassador. I enjoy getting my hands into multiple elements. It is exciting for me to learn and participate in new endeavors. I’m always looking to accomplish my next goal. I would say that I am known for my personality and bubbly character. I am most proud of myself for always taking initiative and executing my visions. I work really hard to ensure that my family is taken care of. My hustle and drive steers me in a different direction than anyone else. I’m determined to see more and do more. 

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risks are inevitable. We as people take risk every single day. Waking up is a risk, brushing our teeth is a risk, talking on our phones is a risk. Their unavoidable. Risks are a part of everyday life. I do not consider myself a risk-taker, I’m simply living life just like everyone else.
