Life & Work with Sekiyha “Ky” C. of Michigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sekiyha “Ky” C..

Hi Sekiyha “Ky”, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started posting on social media a lot more during Covid, just like a lot of other people. I started my journey on Twitter but it branched into other platforms and I built myself a brand of who you see today.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Social media and fashion were and still are a hobby for me, but when you turn them into more of a job, it can get more un enjoyable. But, through the years I started to balance things a lot better, especially since I was diagnosed with a chronic illness. I needed to slow down and take my hobby back. So now, I focus on the fun of social media, and if I want to have it as a job, I do it! I still work a 9-5 like most people!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I just moved across the state, I was a retail girly. I started small and worked my way up to assistant manager at a great small business in Detroit. At the moment, since I’ve moved fairly recently, I haven’t found what I want to do at my new home, but I know I want to focus more on my social media, doing what I love in Michigan and finding spots that inspire me!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I loved putting on fashion shows for my family. I think that’s what sparked my passion for clothes and being in a creative space. It made me realize I wanted to expand on what was in front of me, that’s when i decided to go to a program through Yellowbrick and the Fashion Institute of Arts to get my certification in Styling Foundations!
