Life & Work with Samil Molina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samil Molina.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started making beats around 2005-2006 using a pirated version of FL Studio, and at the time it was really just for me, something to do for fun, messing around. I was always interested in producing but it was never something I thought would be a career path. It was until around 2015 that I really started to take music more seriously and start laying the foundation for Loop Fiction LLC. Around 2016 I linked up with Wuzee who brought me into the Foot Clan collective. I bought my first drum machine/sampler a couple years after and never looked back. in 2019 I founded Loop Fiction to release projects I collaborate on and executive produce under a distribution deal with SUGO Music Group.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like every journey, there are ups and downs. I try not to dwell on the low points, only how I can bounce back and leave that in the past. Staying focused on your plan can be hard when you don’t see any returns right away, but at the same time I can’t see myself doing anything else. Discipline is going to be the most valuable thing you can develop, without it it’s hard to continue doing the work even on days where you feel like throwing in the towel.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a music producer. I wear many hats in the industry but that is the main one. I engineer a lot of the projects released as well as serving as executive producer and business administrator. My style is influenced by legends such as The Alchemist, Madlib, J Dilla, Pete Rock, RZA, Large Professor, Q-Tip, Bronze Nazareth, Black Milk, Flying Lotus, the list can go on and on really. I absorb a lot from them and just put out my take, my voice on it. Even though I’m still refining my sound, you can tell by the uniqueness that this is (or could be) a Samil-type beat.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
It’s hard to tell sometimes what benefits came from hard work or luck. Maybe it’s a little of both, either way you can’t truly capitalize off luck without hard work.

Dope. This dude is fire and I’m so glad I can finally see what’s in his head. The Scientist can’t wait to work with him.
