Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Vang
Hi Ricky, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started podcasting with a good friend of mine back in 2016. In 2019, I branched off on my own and started Spoiler Force. I started with doing reviews on current anime, movies and comic books. Eventually, I collaborated with other content creators and interviewed them on my show. Through my connections, I was able to interview voice actors as well and grow the podcast to where it is at now. I also lived in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for a few years and gained an incredible amount of experience with doing press work at conventions, interviewing more actors and creators and working behind the scenes for artists at conventions.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a very tough road, for me, personally. In 2021, I went through some personal struggles and almost decided to quit podcasting altogether. If it wasn’t for my friends, family and loved ones, I probably wouldn’t be around.
I find it difficult at times to be consistent with my work, while maintaining my own personal life. It’s also hard not to compare myself with other fellow creatives and see their strives while my work has nothing to show, yet.
Keeping a positive mindset at all times is challenging, but with this upcoming year, I’m focusing on doing what I want to do and not what makes people want to tune in to my show.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a podcast host and producer. I’m known for reviewing anime, manga, comic books and movies but more importantly, interviewing artists, content creators and actors.
I’m most proud of being able to do all of this on my own. From recording, interviewing, editing and networking. It’s not an easy task.
I believe what sets me apart from most creators is that I stay incredibly passionate about my craft despite the setbacks. I may not be well known or have the best studio or equipment, but I make the best of what I have and work incredibly hard for my podcast.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Passion and Discipline. It’s what drives creatives to keep working on their craft, even if they don’t achieve what they wish for.
