Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Alix.
Hi Patricia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My degree is in Psychology, but I have always loved art and design. I came into web design purely by accident. I was on complete bed rest during my first pregnancy and took to blogging to stay sane. I couldn’t stand how basic the site looked, so I took as many online courses as I could to learn how front=end website design. After I finished styling my own blog, my friends asked me to design theirs, and their followers saw their sites, and also asked me. I then realized this could be a viable business! I built my first full website in 2011, and have served several hundreds of clients since then.
Initially of course, I didn’t really choose my clients, but I eventually realized how much I enjoyed working with other creatives more than any others. I love the transformation that we achieve, and I love showing off how talented and amazing my clients are.
I have continued learning, of course, and added brand identity and brand strategy into my services. All the better to serve my clients better.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an entrepreneur is not for the weak of heart. Marketing my business from Singapore, when my target market is global hasn’t been easy. And for an introvert like me, it’s even harder. Talk about going out of my comfort zone!
Also, this industry changes so fast, and keeping up with everything that’s new can be exhausting. But I love learning. And I want to make sure I am serving my clients well.
Time zones can be tricky as well. Singapore is 12 hours ahead of Eastern time. Scheduling Zoom calls requires careful planning and lots of coffee.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I like to think of myself as a creative partner, helping female creative founders (interior designers, wedding planners, photographers) whose work is already exceptional, but their online presence doesn’t reflect it yet. I create brands and websites with the same precision, intention, and artistry that they bring to their own projects. My background in Psychology gives me a unique approach, a blend of strategy and style to help position them for the premium clients they’re ready to attract.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I was such a girly-girl. I had a miniature tea set and loved playing tea-time with my favorite doll (My Friend Mandy).
I was also constantly drawing, and designing clothes for my paper dolls. I filled up a shoe box with my ‘creations’.
